Airlines Who Have Ordered The A380

Sat Jan 22, 2005 5:31 am

THe title speaks for the topic itself. I just have lost track of airlines who have ordered the A380 so far. I'm mainly asking this question to get a better idea of who Boeing can still win over if they launch the 747 Advanced project soon. The customers I am positive have ordered the A380 are LH, AF, QF, UPS, Emirates, Air Canada, and Air China. Are there any other customers that I have not named? Also, how many total have been ordered up to this point?

EK: 43 (!)

3) You've still missed the following:

Qatar Airways: 2
Malaysia Airlines: 6
ILFC: 10
Thai Airways: 6

Total orders: 149

A definite no to Air Canada. And Air China is still missing on the list.

You left out Etihad Airways, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

How many of the customers so far are planning to use A380s as 744 replacements? Like phase out the 744s completely in favor of the A380? I have already heard Qantas say they plan to keep their 744s and operate them with the A380. It seems to me that for the most part, since AF has ordered only 10 A380s, that they are keeping the 744s. does the A380 mean the end of the 747 for any one of its current customers?

"does the A380 mean the end of the 747 for any one of its current customers?"

I would say SQ, they are already selling them off or leasing them out. They now only have 29 of them left.

There has also been much speculation that the 773ER order was designed as a 744 replacement.(especially on this site)

QF is looking at 777's and A340's which will most likley replace 743's and 744's which would be used in conjunction with A380's. this is a route a number of airlines will probably take as the 744 may no longer fit into their fleet.

Ah, it's Malaysian! I heared on the news the other day that AMS would see it's first regular A380 service in 2008 but I was still wondering which airline...

Great (or big) news!

Cheers!

LifelinerOne,
AMS is one of only 2 cities from KUL which has twice-daily year-round B747 service, one each by MH & KL (*). The other one is LHR with 18 weekly B744. I guess it's only natural that AMS should receive MH's A380 service.

I personally see this announcement on AMS as a sign that MH's membership to SkyTeam is eminent  Big grin.

China Southern just announced that they would buy 5 A380s. Looks like they got that China order after all.

nah! i don't think airbus could replace boeings in the skies, only boeing can replace it's aircrafts itself. They both have their own reliability, boeing has something that airbus does'nt have, likewise airbus. They both have their own purpose according to their design.

FRAspotter: Airbus stated sometime ago that they had an LOI from a Chinese carrier and at the inaugration of the A380 said that the name of the carrier would be released sometime within the next 30 days. Obviously if it is China Southern there won't be too many surprises then.

Airlines Who Have Ordered The A-380.

I still keep hoping that KL orders a few some day. Chances are slim to none, but if
traffic keeps growing as predicted, maybe in some years they might use them on routes like
PBM, CUR, YYZ,JNB,KUL.

A380 in KL colour would be very nice, a huge blue aircraft. Apart from B777-300ER, can A340-600 also a possible 744 replacements? A380 may be too big in some cases.

I would love to see A380 in CX colour although chances are too big.

Question: Is there any, I repeat, any possibility that NW might purchase the A380? IT seems to me that with their growing loyalty to Airbus, it just might happen if Boeing doesn't announce a new 747.

If any US airline ever orders pax A380, it will probably be NW, but not for a long time if they ever do, I suppose UA could be possible, then maybe not, quite apart from their financial state, they may just stick to newer 777's for any partial replacement for 747s.
Then again, if Boeing does build a 747Adv, these two good be good prospects.
I doubt Airbus is expecting many, if any, pax A380's from the US, 20 years ago half of 747 production was going to Pacific rim airlines, that trend has yet to stop, now you can add in the exploding Mid East market.
Two places A380 is doing well in, even at this early stage.
