Takeoff Performance A380 Vs 747-400

Sun Jan 23, 2005 2:56 am

Much has been said that the 2 types have the same runway length requirements. I was just shown a comparison, (by colleges) one from the Airbus web site (AC_A380_05.pdf) and one from the Boeing website (7474sec3.pdf) which shows the A380 needs more runway at higher takeoff weights than the 747. As anyone done a comparison or study? Or have we just took Airbus's word that the A380 uses the same runway length? Also is this why most are loading the A380 light (only 550 passengers vs more)? Your thoughts and help please. I would like to return with the correct information.

Notes: At sea level my colleges say they are close +/- 2000 Ft but at altitude the 747 out performs the A380. I am digging into the information and am asking for help.

Just curious, what colleges showed you? Harvard, U.C.L.A, U of Maryland?  Smile

Let the A380 take off first, maybe then you can see for yourself  Wink/being sarcastic
Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

Utah State, BYU, and Weber State. A group of mostly Boeing Fans, friends and professors.

I am or try to be more in the middle. There are a lot of students watching the A380 develop and it's success or failure will be discussed for years in the classroom.

As yes some are my colleagues. Most are instant messenger friends.
