VS A340(G-VSEA) At MAN Today!

Mon Jan 24, 2005 4:36 am

Good Evening,

Just want to let you know that the first ever Virgin A340 was at MAN today, 9931 departed from MAN around 9.30am this morning and will be back as 9932 tomorrow at 7:00am.They was using 06 operations this morning, I saw the aircraft fly over me (Leigh) on a WAL 1S departure.

It was routing to the USA, don't know which destination mind, either MIA or JFK.(MIA's my best guess, maybe one of the 742's are inoperative?)

Hope this is a regular occurrence at seeing a A340 in VS colour.

Anybody have anymore details on Virgin's plans to expand at MAN, I know there was rumors.

Cheers,

You got a few things wrong there mate. Firstly, its the 2nd VS 340 to visit MAN, G-VELD visited a couple of weeks ago, and secondly, its destination was/is SJU. They are running cruise charters for a cruise company in the uk. A couple more are planned during the coming weeks.

Cheers, Matt

and also VS does not fly to JFK from MAN.

And the 742s fly to MCO, not MIA.

Umm........G-VSEA is currently on the ground at LHR and is due to go to LOS tonight so think you might have your reg's mixed up.

The aircraft was G-VAEL; VS A340s are no strangers to MAN as the MCO service when it started back in 1996/1997 was the original equipment (later followed by a single winter's operation of a Martinair 767).

As for future routes, I would imagine LAS (2 weekly), BGI (weekly), ANU (weekly), UVF (weekly) and possibly LAX (if they are purely considering leisure passengers, I imagine a 2 weekly service should do okay).

LAS, BGI and ANU are already operated by British Midland with Virgin Holidays using that capacity. There would be no sense in duplication, although it wouldn't be the first time Branson has stabbed Bishop in the back.....

...or perhaps I've looked at a crystal ball and saw BD merging with VS, therefore allowing the use of the 3rd A330 for more "business orientated" routes ex-MAN  Big grin

Erm, what about the A340s that used to operate VS075 MAN-MCO 6 days a week prior to it going to the 767 and then 742's?

Just landed on G-VAEL into MAN from SJU this morning VS9932, however on my paperwork when I left for this trip on Sat did state that G-VSEA would operate back, (Coincidence!)

After an hour or so on the ground we vacated the stand at T2 for the VS076 arrival and departed (empty) for LHR arriving at 0810.

G-VSUN was the high density A343 we operated in a W28 Y306 config for the MAN-MCO in the mid/late nineties. It had no J class and looked quite strange.
