AirWales, there's no way anyone here will be able to give you a definite answer to your question - much of the answer depends on what type of fare you've got, as well as if you want to upgrade by using miles or money...

If I were you, I'd call either BA or, if you've booked through one, your travel agent and ask them - they'll be able to tell you more or less right away.

Also, if you fare IS eligible to be upgraded you can do it online. (Provided you booked it on ba.com)

Go to Manage My booking, enter your PNR (booking number) and your details will come up. there is an option to upgrade, but if your fare is ineligible it will have a cross next to it saying it is not available for your booking.

Most cheap fares dont allow upgrades however.

If you bought an el cheapo then you are screwed. You'd have to effectively throw away the booking and start afresh. No changes can be made if you book dirt cheap tickets. It is when you start booking Y,B,H class tickets that you can start changing with penalties.

I'd say your best bet is to wait until check-in and see if you can pay to upgrade there (for the return flight it is possible that they may advertise one-way upgrades for about £200-£250). If not wait until the boarding procedure is taking place and call an FA, hand them a business card with your seat number on the back and get them to pass it to the CSD who may be able to arrange something. Just be aware you won't earn miles or tier points on the ways suggested above.

The Change Your Booking option on BA.com is, for the moment at least, is somewhat feminine in its ways due its erratic and unpredictable responses.

If flying longhaul, then you can usually upgrade V, R, M and K fares , as well as the Y, B and H fares for £50 plus the difference to WT+. If you do look at the upgrade then don't leave it to the last minute as there is a 21 day advance purchase requirement on the lowest WT+ fares. Getting upgardes on the day is not a sure fire thing at all, particularly if departing from a UK airport. As your travel is not for 8 months, it is quite possible that, if you went searching for the lowest fare, you would have purchased an N class ticket which is completely non-changeable.

Anyway, as said before, the simplest way to check if your ticket can be changed is not to ask a bunch of plane spotters, but ask whoever you booked the ticket with. If you booked the ticket online, try and make a duplicate reservation and if you can still get quoted the same price check the fare rules to see if changes are permitted at all.

AirWales,

You can also upgrade to WT+ on the actual aircraft. The crew have upgrade packs available onboard. I cannot disclose the price here, but it isn't that expensive.

Of course, you will not be able to upgrade if WT+ is arlready full, and as the procedure is time consuming for the crew, you may get some rolling eyes following your request!

Best regards

Air Wales,
When I came back from Oz (MEL/SIN/LHR) I asked to upgrade on the aircraft and was given a figure of £200.00 to get to WT+ - however they couldn't offer me a seat on the SIN-LHR sector as it was full already.
