TK001: Onur Air only operates charter flights from Stansted, as well as Birmingham, Bristol etc.
I would think that distance has been the main reason why up to now no LCCs operate from UK to Turkey. As Ray Webster of easyJet once said, Athens was probably the limit for a no-frills flight from the UK. Anything over 3 - 4 hours, passengers would want something by way of frills, be it increased seat pitch, hot meals, IFE etc. It would also be difficult to get more than one rotation in a day between (say) LGW
and even if there were two rotations, separate crews would be needed. Go operated between Stansted and Tenerife, but this was not successful, principally due to the length of the flight (and also it operated at night).
However with Ryanair now introducing IFE and more people accepting no-frills (and legacy carriers like IB
cutting frills), I think it will not be too long before we see a LCC starting flights from the UK to Istanbul.
