Northwest Airlines will begin seasonal, nonstop service from Detroit to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (YYG). The daily flights will operate with the 50 seat CRJ, and will operate between July 1 and Oct. 15. The flight will be the only nonstop between PEI and the United States.

I'm amazed NWA making much business here in Canada! Hmm I wonder if this is also to give the Japanese a better connection to PEI. I know they do make up a lot of tourism in PEI.

NW seems much more willing than other carriers to start service to secondary Canadian markets. I would think, for example, that any city that can sustain 9E/XJ service to DTW could probably support some service on UAX or MQ to ORD. However, DTW does make it much easier to connect to a domestic flight after clearing customs than ORD does.

NW has served more cities in Canada than any other US Major for some time now. ((AA seems to have more frequencies on some markets (YYZ), but NW has flown to more cities. And of course UA has codeshared flights with AC.))) It is great to see us add PEI to our network. There are many Japanese tourists (and business travelers) who make there way to Atlantic Canada. This goes with our twice daily (summer) and once daily year round flight to YHZ. Next, I would love to see us fly to Newfoundland!

That would be great if NW starts YYG service. There are many japanese tourists who come here to Halifax and after travel by bus or drive a rental car to PEI.

YYG is a nice airport. There are many tourists in PEI from USA and other parts of the world every summer. I can confirm that because I have been there myself about 20 times in last 4 years.

Wow, looking at the AC versus NWA schedules, I see that with AC from Tokyo (or Tokyo through YVR) you get into YYZ at dinnertime and there's no connecting flight to Charlottetown so they make you overnight till the next morning! Although this may change when the summer schedule kicks in.

On NWA you get into Detroit in the afternoon and have a 2 or 3 hour layover before your nonstop to Charlottetown. Much better. Northwest does certainly have quite an extensive Canadian presence!

Tennisace-You can also fly AC on NRT-2-YYZ-142/422/436-YUL-8796-YYG without overnighting in Toronto, and you can return on YYG-8793-YUL-403/405-YYZ-1-NRT
