Domestic Rvsm And Fuel Savings

Wed Jan 26, 2005 9:02 am

With domestic RVSM now in effect over the lower 48, southern Canada, and the Caribbean, does anyone know if it is showing signs of being successful in reducing fuel burn for the airlines?

I used flight tracker to check various flights over the past few days and they were flying at altitudes I had not seen them at usually, typically 1000-3000 feet higher than I remember seeing them prior to DRVSMs implementation. The info I saw was that DRVSM was expected to save the airlines hundreds of millions of dollars a year in fuel costs, anyone know if (and I know it is early on) it looks like the expectations will be met?

You need about a year of data. This is the worst time of the year to get a quick performance check due to weather.
