Moscow Air Show 2005

Wed Jan 26, 2005 4:59 pm

Hi there,

I'd like to know if many of you guys are planning to visit Moscow this summer to attend the MAKS airshow which takes place at Zhukovsky airport from August 16-21?

The reason I am asking for is that we (airevents.com) are considering to charter some interesting ex-Soviet planes for sightseeing flights during the airshow. Due to noise restrictions, it will be much easier to organize a trip on let's say an Ilyushin 62 from Moscow than from a place in Western Europe. There are even some Il-18 around Moscow which might be available for charter flights.

Best wishes
Sven

Is this a big airshow? Will there be lots of world airline reps and commercial aircraft manufactures out there? I am trying to figure out if it is a "trade show" or if it is just a show where people will be demonstrating military jets and things like that. If it is going to be a big event with lots of commercial aircraft I would like to get some information on that. Also if that is the case are there any new exciting announcements that we are expecting from there?

Hi,
have a look at www.airshow.ru.
I think it's one of the biggest air "trade" shows in the world, but of course smaller than Paris and Farnborough. In 2003, the show was opend for trade visitors only during the first 4 or 5 days, so it is definitely more than just an airshow.
I have never been there, but I might go this year!
Best wishes
Sven

Air shows are very dangerous. The planes fly low and fast, a glitch, human error, or something bad and you'll have a huge fireball over the people.

It happened many times. Remember it.

I doubt that visiting Moscow airshow on one of the trade-only days will be very dangerous.

Do you mean MAKS 2005? I went to MAKS 2003 and it was simply awesome. Tour of IL76 Paratroop, TU214, Let 410. The US boycotted Le Bourget that year, so B52, F15, F16 squadrons were there with crews, also Italian Air Force, plus of course great Russian airshow. Tons of special plane displays and you can see the retired test aircraft on the tarmac at Ramenskoye in the distance. Also there is also the trade display. In 2003, Airbus had an entire pavilion, plus there were tons and tons of other exhibits, some interactive... I wholly recommend going!
