How Is ATA Connection Doing At IND?

Thu Jan 27, 2005 5:30 am

Just out of curiousity, does anyone know how the IND-SBN, EVV, and FWA flights are doing?

From ATA's press release today:

"Effective March 28, ATA will end Chicago Express service from Chicago to Flint, South Bend and Grand Rapids, as well as recently-announced service from Indianapolis to Evansville, Milwaukee, South Bend, Fort Wayne and Flint. Service from Indianapolis to Gary, IN, previously scheduled to start February 1, will not be initiated."

Crappy......crappy......and more crappy......

Here at DAY we are having a terrible last month load wise(because it's January and we're closing).....and we're still the third busiest onnection city(couple hundred pax behind FNT and GRR). What a joke!

In other news.....on February 1st there will be a hearing in the bankruptcy court in Indiana on whether to appoint an examiner to investigate financial dealings between Chicago Express and ATA Airlines. The objection comes from NatTel.....who put in a bid for CE back in December. I wonder if ATA smells something is coming.....why the hell don't they just sell it off???

So does that mean that C8 will be out of MKE period? It is my understanding that they only fly to IND right now, would the go back to MDW? Or are these people screwed out of a job too?
Nice Trip Report!!! Great Pics, thanks for posting!!!! B747Forever

Hmm... SW Express out of MDW? If SW is agreeable to a TZ codeshare, why not a "SW Express" codeshare with the new owners of C8 or some other regional carrier?

I think loads out of FNT, GRR, DAY, TOL and others connecting to SW mainline at MDW would be strong.
Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

With ATA connection leaving completely, what would be the chances of Northwest starting some of those routes with regional jets or turboprops. They have enough destinations/flights out of IND that SBN service and even EVV, FWA service could work.  Smile

what about commutair or even skwywest making the intra-state flights....they can still operate under CO Connection.....and it can be even more beneficial since NW is flying many new routes that they can have the connections to. just a thought.

I think it would work; I would start out with maybe 2 or 3 flights daily and see how the load factors work. SBN and EVV could be good ideas; FWA i would not be so sure about.

NW is not going to start turboprop flying at IND. NW will continue to feed traffic from SBN, FWA, and EVV through its existing hubs at DTW, MSP, MEM where they offer a lot more flight options that IND. IND is mostly designed to suit the needs of people there and offer service in key leisure and business destinations where they want to fly nonstop.

NW is not going to canabalize its existing hub network, those smaller midwest cities are the bread and butter of its route network.

Judging by MEM numbers it really doesn't seem like much of a hub. Plus the O/D numbers at MEM are among the worst. With high O/D costs, a terminal stuck in the 70's and no room to grow I doubt NW would be 100% loyal to MEM. Just not a financially sound to focus your future on a place like MEM.

Tjwgrr.....

Southwest wants nothing to do with turboprop flying. Even the President of Chicago Express explicitly stated that.
