The airport in Providence is called T.F Green Airport. It is a nice little airport which has services from most major airlines, except for TWA. USAirways and Southwest provide the most frequent service. It's a good alternative to Boston if you don't mind flying on smaller aircraft. Biggest aircraft PVD gets is the 757. United flies the 757 to and from ORD, and USAirways always has at least one, usually to PHL. The airport has 22 gates, a very nice terminal with shops and restaurants, and direct Bonanza bus service to Boston. Overall, PVD is a nice place to visit.

Just a little side note..the airport isn't actually located in Providence (although you're always flying to PVD). It's about 10 minutes away and is Warwick ;-) If I remember correctly, a good spot to view planes is the road (don't know the name) right near the beginning of 23L. The planes go overhead just before landing. It's pretty easy to find...just drive along the perimeter of the airport ;-)

have fun

JHUMark is correct in stating that TF Green is actually located in Warwick, not Providence but the proximity is so close! Kind of like DFW being physically located in Fort Worth, not Dallas (but when everyone flies to and from there, they don't say Fort Worth, they say Dallas!)

It is a fabulous airport. I actually picked up my sister and her fiancee when they flew in for my wedding last May from Chicago and I could not believe how easy it was to get in and out of there from a parking and traffic standpoint.

Living and working in Boston, PVD is not that far away either, barely an hour from here (if you go the speed limit!)

No international flights though, you still have to fly out of BOS for that!

there are a ton of good spots to watch from. Both ends of the main runway (5/23) are on main roads as in the thresh to rwy 16. Also if you maunver through some back roads you wil find a good spot right behind the fire station less than 300ft from the runway, i know thats where i will be saturday!! As for airservice the airport served 5.15 million pax last year up from 2.4 mil in 1996 so growth is good as it is percieved as the alternative to Boston. Also this summer every sunday evening SATA will start weekly A310 nonstop service to Ponta Delgada, Portugal (Azores) and freqency is expected to increase with time. Also hopefully more of Bostons charters will move down to PVD with BOS getting more crowded and PVD opening its new customs last summer.
Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!

Actually isn't DFW acutally located in Grapevine, Texas? About half way between Fort Worth and Dallas....

You very well may be right Stlbham, now I'm not even sure!

I looked at DFW's web site and I couldn't get a concise answer although Irving looks like the closest city!

I'll throw out a question to the general audience to see if a DFW'er has the answer!

Dear friends. Thank you all for your help. Unfortunately it seems I'll have to postpone my trip as my flight OPO-CDG-JFK is full. So I probably be in Providence in the summer
