Go-Around On SwissAir

I was on SR126 ZRH-BOS today. The plane was due to land around noon (an MD-11, my first MD-11 flight) but had to perform a go around when it was literally seconds from touchdown. It was a very strange feeling. We're used to such acceleration on ground during takeoff, but experiencing it while still in the air was interesting. The weather was gorgeous and the approach to rwy 22 was smooth up to that point. The captain later announced that the reason was another plane taking it's time on the runway.

RE: Go-Around On SwissAir

I saw that SR this afternoon in South Boston. I was walking around the "Sugar Bowl" (I tidal pool near Castle Island), and I looked up and saw what I thought was a DC-10 taking off from Runway 22L. A few seconds later when it was closer I saw it was a Swissair MD-11 turning left over Boston Harbor. My first thought was it was a charter flight, but then I realized it would arrive in Zürich at 1h00, which would be the worst planning on SR's part, not to mention, why would the put a charter flight on a secheduled route. When I turned around I was an AA 767 turning to the right (which they never due, because rich, distant neighbours in Milton howl in protest). But I figured it was on the parallel runway (22R). It took me 5 min, when I saw it re-entering the landing queue, to realize that it was a missed approach, and it was due to the AA 767.
