Still Russian/Soviet Planes At Riga?

Fri Jan 28, 2005 11:37 pm

Are there many Russian- and Soviet-built aircraft at Riga (RIX) nowadays? Or are the vast majority Western-built?

RAF Avia AN-26s, when they're not in the UK anyway  Big grin
Would think you'll still see a load of those Soviet a/c types at RIX  Big grin

They should have some sort of aviation museum at the airport where you can find old Russian military equipment (look for the pictures in the database).

About the regular ops: Not sure. If you are looking around in Tallinn (TLL) in neighboring Estonia then you have almost nothing else than western types. Only occasional cargo flights are using Russian-built equipment. Maybe RIX has more "Russian connections"  Big grin

SVO-RIX flights are, of course, operated by Aeroflot with Soviet equipment....

When I was in Riga two month ago, I saw Aeroflot morning flight two Moscow was operated by TU-154. All the other aircraft parked at the same time in Riga were western build.

Perhaps they have some charter but looking to their timetable I do not see many soviet type aircrafts

This is what I have seen in December coming in from/going back to SXF on U2. I had two friends of mine with me who we more interested in the city than the airport so I was only there for about two hours, also that's only the new registrations I made there, should give you an impression of what's around though.
