UA often offers these short little hops for $99 RT on their Internet E-fares. In fact, they've even run ads in the Los Angeles Times promoting these flights as alternatives to driving. While I doubt very many people (although I'm sure there are some) would rather fly than drive from LAX
, once you start talking about SBA
, etc. traffic, time, and frustration set in and, depending on the price, it might be worth it.
I've taken several of these short hops as a non-rev trying to make better connections and the passenger types vary. On one early morning LAX
flight, I think I was the only person on the completely full flight who wasn't connecting on a red-eye from Hawaii. But then another time I flew SNA
, and all the connections they read were to other cities out west. Sometimes it's ridiculously more expensive to fly from ONT
and sometimes it's not.
But it's great! We did SNA
in 10 minutes flat. I have to believe that's the shortest flight in the US, no?
