SNA - LAX -SNA

Sun Jan 30, 2005 2:24 am

I just noticed that UA (Skywest) has scheduled flights between SNA & LAX. The average cost is about $210 R/T! Although I cant imagine why someone would purchase a ticket just to fly between SNA & LAX! It must be serving as a connection for UA's LAX hub. I am curious to know if this is the shortest and most expensive flight in the continental US?
Thanks in advance.

It is a connection, just like OXR-LAX-OXR, ONT-LAX-ONT and even SAN-LAX-SAN and SBA-LAX-SBA

OXR and SNA flights without a connection on them are both under 50 miles, less than 15 minutes airtime and the price if you wanted to buy just that sector is always riduculous. I have seen OXR-LAX-OXR for over $400

UA often offers these short little hops for $99 RT on their Internet E-fares. In fact, they've even run ads in the Los Angeles Times promoting these flights as alternatives to driving. While I doubt very many people (although I'm sure there are some) would rather fly than drive from LAX to SNA or OXR, once you start talking about SBA, SAN, etc. traffic, time, and frustration set in and, depending on the price, it might be worth it.

I've taken several of these short hops as a non-rev trying to make better connections and the passenger types vary. On one early morning LAX-SAN flight, I think I was the only person on the completely full flight who wasn't connecting on a red-eye from Hawaii. But then another time I flew SNA-LAX, and all the connections they read were to other cities out west. Sometimes it's ridiculously more expensive to fly from ONT or SNA via LAX and sometimes it's not.

But it's great! We did SNA-LAX in 10 minutes flat. I have to believe that's the shortest flight in the US, no?

The fares are more stable. I will never get MSY-LAX-OXR for 200 bucks RT but I never pay more than 330, even making a mileage run through ORD and DEN.

That and the LAX-OXR flight take less time to fly than to taxi to the runway.

Wow! talk about inflation.

I flew LAX-SNA back in 1983 with Air Irvine, the walk up fare that I paid was $39. But then again, I guess that's why they are no longer around!

Nope. At only 20 miles, Chalk's Ocean Airways FLL-MPB service is the shortest domestic flight in the US.

Off the subject... but what about Horizon's flight from Lewiston to Pullman?
