Sun Jan 30, 2005 3:49 am

Is DL mainline coming back to Buffalo?

I'm looking at flights and they have a 73S to Cincinatti.

Yes.

DL will have 1x732 to CVG and 2xMD88 to ATL. There will also be plenty of RJ's too.

Mainline Returns

Sun Jan 30, 2005 6:05 am

It also returns to GEG and PSC. It is introduced into PHF.
The BUR station opens as well while the OMA station becomes all DCI (for now).
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Mid-Feb will see DL mainline returning . They'll use 732's (!!) to CVG and MD88's to ATL. Looking forward to seeing them.

I was there today and saw a Ryan 738 coming/going to CUN. Tis the season for charters in ROC & BUF!

Danny,

I guess i thought that CO downgraded to all Express. Whenever im expecting company it appears that its COEX flights ownly on the live feed from the airport. Plus the flight numbers seem high for mainline.

One reason I like flying on NWA so much! Whereas AA, CO, and DL spits on ROC while maintaining mainline service to BUF and even SYR, NWA has bucked a trend!

SYR has only managed to retain DL, NW and US mainline. We get AEagle and UAex to ORD instead of mainline  Sad. We used to get DC10s back in the day! Also, we don't have DL mainline to CVG. Don't know if we ever have, either.

Yeah, I hear you PanAm330......I remember hearing abuot the "three holers" flying back into ROC in the 70's as well. Heck, nowadays going back home to ROC, only NWA and United gets my business alongside B6.

DL had all mainline service to CVG until 1998. It was 2 732's a day. In 1998 DL added a CRJ to SYR increasing service to 3x per day to CVG. In 2000 it went to 2x CRJ and 1x 72S. Then 3x CRJ and 1x 72S in 2002. Then upon retirement of the 72S CVG became an all CRJ route with 4x per day.

NW has dropped neither ROC or BUF as mainline cities

When American cut ROC back to all-Jungle Jets in 2003, Northwest promptly added a daily DC-9 nonstop to MSP without reducing seat capacity to DTW. (which is now an ARJ, but still an increase). There are advantages to holding onto all those good old workhorse DC-9's--like being able to afford to continue mainline service to many medium-size destinations.

I wouldn't be surprised to see DL mainline at ROC again soon, either. We're up to 5x daily CR7, 2x daily CRJ to ATL, and 3x daily CR7 to CVG.

"Also, we don't have DL mainline to CVG" (SYR)

And we don't really need it. I'm glad we now have 4 MD80s to ATL daily. DL, NW, and even US continue to be strong at SYR.

NW added MSP service last year, while US upgraded two DCA flights to 733 and RJed some prop flights.

Now if we could only get AA and UA mainline back...

Good going BUFSmile I am thinking of seeing the falls this summer as well as my boy hood home. Hope there are plenty of mainline jets. The more mainline jets the more seats to non-rev. Smile

I didn't count WN and FL as mainline because they don't have feeders as an option (FL did).

Great news about Delta returning. So what do you guys think the next major service announcement will be at BUF?

-B6 E190's to BOS or FLL?

-WN to Midway?

-AA bringing back the DC-10 service to LAX?

I flew EA L1011 from SYR/PHL/MIA back in the 70's. Lots of dumb routes before deregulation.

Just think, here in ROC we used to have A^A DC-10-10's to LGA! I have an old newspaper clipping from one ran off the runway in the 70's.

I hope DL will bring mainline back to the ROC,we haven't had regular 737NG service here since Eastwind left.

If Delta does bring mainline back, I'd guess they'd use the same smaller types of mainline a/c they're using in BUF. ALB does see some 738's, but they don't have AirTran, either.

I have that clipping about the off-runway DC-10 too. My mom drove me out to see it, but they had already towed the plane to the terminal. It's one of my earliest memories.

BTW when I was doing research on ROC history at the downtown Library on my last trip home, I found a news clipping about a UA DC-8 having some minor problem at ROC in the late '70s. So it is on paper somewhere that UA was flying DC-8s into ROC in some capacity, maybe substitutions or charter. Something to back up my visual memory of seeing UA stretch DC-8s in pre-1974 livery passing over my home in Greece on approach in 1978.

ROC as a market has been in the toilet for years; DL stopped mainline 3 years ago now I think. Airtran is there with a significant presence, they also have JetBlue. UA, AA and CO are also now express I think.

I am glad to hear that BUF is making a comeback with CO. I hope the economy in ROC inproves to the point where mailline aircraft are again needed by the legacies there. I think US Airways is the only legacy offering mainline.

ROC posted its highest passenger traffic ever in 2004, with 2,760,000 passengers enplaned and deplaned. So we're not exactly in the toilet. But had we had LCC's developing the market in the 1990's, we'd probably regularly be over 3 million per year.
