This is great news for the UK-Poland traveller and for the avition market in these areas. My mother recently purchased a return ticket from London Stansted-Wroclaw in western Poland for something like £35 including taxes! The service is due to start in March I believe. There are some beautiful Polish cities to go and visit, especially Krakow and Warsaw, as mentioned in the article, ideal city beaks.

It's definitely been discussed here before.

LOT officially unveiled 'Centralwings' in December and magazines like Airline Business had detailed the project in October.

It's just the BBC being late with the story because Centralwings' president happened to be in town earlier this week.

Definitely Krakow, then Gdansk, Wroclaw, Poznan. All of them with fantastic old towns, great to visit specially in the summer.

I visited Krakow with Wizzair from Luton (to Katowice, roughly an hour away) in the summer. Beautiful city and a great service. There does seem to be some overcapacity in the Polish market recently though, with Wizz, SkyEurope, Polonia (no longer). I'm sure capacity will settle down. To be honest I can't see long run viability of, for example, LPL-KTW to be honest. It seems if a short-haul European LCC route can't justify daily operation then it doesn't last long. My 2 cents.

I don't know why LH serves KTW and not KRK. Does Katowice have a larger population then Krakow?

"Does Katowice have a larger population then Krakow?"

Not the city by itself...but the Katowice metro area is much bigger than Warsaw, or any other Polish metro area for that matter of fact.

Lufthansa flies both to KRK and KTW.

They need more airlines into KRK. Its so hard to fly into there.

KRK apart from LOT has service of Austrian, Styrian, Lufthansa, SAS, British Airways, Malev, CSA, Easyjet, SkyEurope, Germanwings. Should be enough to get there  Big grin

Lufthansa MUC-KRK service goes from twice to three times daily by March 2005.
Austrian goes from daily to twice daily. A new service by Alitailia, MXP-KRK twice daily with ERJ-145 is to be launched. BA LGW-KRK goes to daily served by 734 for the summer season.
We are missing the SkyTeam leader in Krakow tough. An AF service to CDG would be nice.
On the low-cost side of the market EasyJet goes twice daily on the DTM-KRK route, keeps daily SXF-KRK and LTN-KRK flights. SkyEurope is to base a 2nd 735 in KRK to increase frequencies and start a couple of new destinations: MAN, NCE and BCN if memory serves.

This would be especially good if they starting flying a London - Wroclaw service. Wroclaw definitely needs a low cost carrier, as LH charges an arm an a leg to fly there.

Jumbojet,

Which airline did your mother use?

Mark
You and I were meant to fly, Air Canada!

Yes, as Backfire said, it is with Ryanair that she booked her flight. Sorry for taking so long to reply, I didn't check the status of this post for a while.

Thanks Backfire for filling in for me.
