SouthWest Airline's "Luv Jets"?

Mon Jan 31, 2005 7:42 am

What's the Deal with these "Luv Jets" ?

I'm talking about the select aircraft that have the heart and a "1" on the a/c.. as pictured below:

And than some aircraft that are more colorful and whatnot do not have the little heart..as pictued below:

What does this mean? Even on WN's website it uses the term; "On some of our Luv Jets..."

Thanks,

The Heart is on the inside of the Canyon Blue planes. It is on the front bulkhead wall

SWA is the airline of Love
- Love Field in Dallas
- LUV ticker symbol
- old route maps that had hearts to identify the cities they served.

I think there was a time when SWA was running Adverts with Bob Marley's "One Love", and it was about that time the red heart with the white 1 began appearing on the old liverys - late 80's I think. With the "new look" the hearts are becomeing a thing of the past.

It's about the LUV! I tell you a friend of mine flew WN this morning from ORL-ISP. It was so crowded at the airport since everyone at the PGA Merchandise show was leaving town. He got to the airport 2 and a half hours before depature and just made his flight! In fact he lost his seat after it was given away cause he couldn't get to the gate fast enough and was lucky that someone else didn't make in time so he got a seat! HUGS all around! It's about the LUV!!  Love

Hey that guy with the private jet can bail us out! Why? HE CAN AFFORD IT!

The Southwest "heart 1" stickers first appeared in late 1992 or early 1993. I think it had something to do with being "number 1" in customer satisfaction for something like 3 years in a row. The heart was already explained.

Incidentally, they initially appeared on the nose, right under the cockpit windows. But I guess it was thought they didn't look good there so they were quickly changed.

My bad. I meant MCO. What a scene at the airport. My friend said he barely made it and had to run like OJ in the Hertz commercial!

Did he bang on his houses' wall as he ran by so Kato would come out to..... oh wait, never mind.

I think the hearts on the inside are just the regular ones that are incorporated in the winged heart logo WN has as official now.

I kinda miss having the ole' triple crown heart on the 737s. It's one of the big mysteries I had to deal with as a kid and it always brings back fond memories of the mustard colored WN jets. Besides, it'd look slick on the canyon blue.

speaking of the tripple crown. Is that 'logo-jet' still around? have any of WN's special livery planes recieved the new interior, and the canyon blue tail?

On a side, note, i liked the desert gold, better than the original mustard, and definatley better then this canyon blue. Although the blue/yellow interiors look awesome!

Very much so! We see it here in BNA every couple of days.

Close, but it's more than that. It represents the sweep of all three catagories the DOT rates airlines (hence the name "Triple Crown"): Customer satisfaction, ontime performance & baggage handling. The DOT rates airlines each quarter or four times per year.

No other airline has ever rated #1 all three catagories for ANY quarter of ANY single year. SWA swept every quarter for 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995 & 1996 consecutively. The hearts were moved farther back as they were peeling away in the slipstream.
