First Choice To Follow Virgin With Inflight Beauty

Tue Feb 01, 2005 4:17 am

Hello All

According to ABTN (Air Business Travel News) FCA is to introduce Inflight Beauty Therapists on selected longhaul services, charging £12.50 a go.

Well......it looks like VS "unique" service is finally catching on (15 years later), but I am amazed a charter carrier is doing it before the likes of EK!

Good luck to them, its such a popular service with our pax, and a brave move by FCA.

Cheers

ITK

Why would they have them on LH flights? Do you mean First Choice flights?

I think FCA have improved quite a lot and are now one of the more better charter airlines.

Flew Air 2000, but not First Choice.
Still, got to say the best charter to fly with is MyTravel Airways though. Can't beat the service on them  Smile

Charter airlines in the UK often give better value for money that the scheduled carriers on the popular sunshine routes with inflight meals and IFE included, even on short routes. Having flown First Choice last summer i'd agree that they offer an excellent service whilst also being amongst the cheapest around. Offering the extra features on their long haul services can only be a good thing and will certainly set them apart from the competition.

When the B787 enters the fleet then you will be flying in style and hopfully have a massage at the same time.

What exactly does one get with 'Inflight Beauty Therapists on selected longhaul services, charging £12.50 a go'?

They are gonna be hurting to put all this crap on their planes, I doubt this is gonna make the final cut. Full bar should be priority or some casino stuff would really sell over international waters.

You think one hostie with a GVCQ in 'beauty therapy' and a make up bag, is a bigger deal than a full bar and casino?!

Why do people want beauty treatments on-board an aircraft?

All those people having their blackheads popped on an aircraft!

A standup bar was considered for the refurbished B767s, I've seen the artists impressions of the various concepts that were looked at.

The idea was rejected due to the fact it costs 6 passenger seats and the resulting loss of revenue - given the fact the airline won't be offering a Business/First class service the fares being charged don'y justify it at this stage.

To be honest I thought the Air Therapist would go the same way, although the service is limited to just a few weekly flights - presumably while it is evaluated.

Treatments are £12.50 and provided by trained beauty therapists in conjunction with skincare company Deralogica. Upper back and scalp massages, pressure point massaging, facial mapping and skin refreshers will be provided. It looks as if treatments will be available to book in advance.

Any idea whether First Choice will be getting Select a Seat service soon, all the other major charters offer it through the net now for a small fee.

First Choice is now advertising for their long haul services:
  • More legroom when compared with BA or VS in economy

  • Wide screen IFE at every seat

  • Free in-flight meals with choice of entree

And now in-flight beauty therapists!

Seems some UK charter flights are beginning to catch up/overtake the legacy carriers for people who fly economy! However, this is not new as older members might remember Wardair, originally a Canadian charter airline with increased seat pitch, fine meals (often Chateaubriand) served on real Wedgwood China with real linen, and as many free drinks as you wished. True there was no IFE, but with such excellent service, meals that would shame many restaurants, and friendly cabin crew, who needed a movie or some PC games or even a beauty therapist to make the flight enjoyable?

Exactly Bcal, these gimmicks are all very well but what I would prefer are more legroom, quality meals, complimentary beverages and friendly, professional serice.

If I want a manicure or to visit the movies, I will make my own arrangements.
