Why People Calling The 7E7, The 787?

Tue Feb 01, 2005 4:41 am

There are 4 or 5 threads currently running with 787 in the title. WHY???? Has Boeing changed the name? If not, why are people doing this?

 Confused

Boeing home page still refers to it as the 7E7 Dreamliner. When did this change happen?

Heh, you really have been out of it. Those are six new customers, all on one day. 60 units. 787 sales are now 186.

Total orders are now around 180 orders. ILFC are in final stages on talks for 20 frames. QR are close to announcing a 60 frame order for the B789.

It was announced a few days ago the "7E7" would now be the "787". Boeing said they wanted to wait until the recived orderd from the Chinese airline or something like that to change it.

At least the number 8 for both the 787 and the A380 means good luck in Asia  Wink/being sarcastic

I know that the number 8 is lucky in Chinese culture. I wonder if changing the name and announcing the order on the same day are directly related. Any Feng Shui experts out there?  Big grin

On the other hand, I am glad they are finally calling it the 787. Call me a traditionalist but I never warmed up to the 7E7 name.

Yes, DAirbus, the two are related. Boeing executives publicly announced that the change is to 'honor and celebrate the Chinese order' or something to that effect.

I'm glad she finally got a proper name. I hope they ditch the "Dreamliner" term completely. This isn't Toys'R'us.

According to the vote distribution, the Dreamliner name won the vote because of overwhelming European support for the name. So there is where the blame lies

Any Feng Shui experts out there?

Not a good design philosophy to follow - this might lead Boeing to use more wood and metal to balance out all that carbon fiber.

I think this is more appropriate for the A380 - you know, where do you locate the bowling alley, should the king-size waterbeds face the tail, etc.
