Air India Exp May Borrow LCC Ideas From Air Decc

BTW guys Air Arabia plans to launch their daily ops to BOM in March/April with the A320. Any idea if AIX plan to fly out of BOM pulling out AI's 310's?

One issue will be the baggage allowance. CX and EK allow 40kgs on DXB-BOM. Baggage allowance is a big issue with passengers travelling from this part of the world to India. The average carry per passenger can range between 25-35 kgs. In some cases upto 60 or even 70. It'll be ineteresting to see what AIX will offer.

An insight into why the baggage allowance is so high on the Gulf India sector.

Many passengers carry not goods just for their family but half the village as well! I do not mean to be sarcastic but just shedding light on why the carry is high. This is because a large number of the migrant Indian population can travel only once in three years or more and therefore tend to send gifts for their family through any friend/relative/acquaintance et all. This is in the other direction as well although onthe return traffic will be mostly sweets/pickles/pappads etc.

Once AIX starts up, I guess finally economic considerations will win. The VFR "baggage" will drop as people will finallyd ecide that until the "friend of an acquaintance's friend" does not pay for the stuff he wants the pax to carry, it does not make any sense to pay excess baggage on AIX!

Bang on target Rajeev...

However, I don't think the allowance on AIX will exceed 30 kgs at any point. Air Arabia which is an LCC offers 30kgs on Sharjah-Colombo (which carries traffic similar to Gulf-Kerala) in addition to 7kgs hand bagg.
I think we'll see a lot of bags getting offloaded  Smile to make it on the next flight. 9W faces a similar problem at BOM with connecting passengers from Gulf to Kerala/Mangalore.

"friend of an acquaintance's friend" that's funny  Big grin
