Excel Airways- Long Haul- What Are They Like?

Thu Feb 03, 2005 5:23 am

Hello,

Today recieved the news that VS are now not doing staff travel for my family to MCO in the Summer, so instead they booked Excel to SFB!

My head fell into my hands before I decided to visit the "XL", as they are now calling themselves, website. I printed out the Boeing 767-300 seat plan and was surprised to see 3 classes offered!

What I would like to know is on the LGW-SFB-LGW route, if it will be a B767-300 and also what the service, legroom (!), entertainment etc. is like. Each of the classes, but especially economy.

Cheers

29-30inch seat pitch on Excel's 763's, in Economy, and 2-4-2 abreast as opposed to scheduled carriers who usually operate 2-3-2.

One or Two of the 763's coming from Air Atlanta are likely to have leather seating which I am not a fan of on long flights as you get a sweaty arse and stick to the the seats.

Afraid the service is likely to be like any other charter carrier on flights of this length. Have you considered travelcity direct.

They operate 742's and sound like they offer a good service.

the seats are ergonomically designed for greater comfort and have a generous seat pitch of at least 32"(larger than most other airlines).

Can this really be true in Economy!?

It only says on their flights to the Caribean, they have nothing about long hauls except the Caribean so far,

I have flown with XL twice now and I'm 6ft 2'', so all I can say is book legroom!

The seats are ergonomically designed for greater comfort

Balls. Try sitting on them for over 4hrs!

UKA330,

I'm guessing you flew on a B737-800 or B757-200? Well yeah they're only designed for short flights so they're not exactly going to offer a lot of legroom. They offer 29-30 inches, whereas the B767-300 has around 32 inches.

The Caribbean and Sanford flights will be operated by the same aircraft (B767-300), so they will be the same.

No. Once was a 767-300 and the other a 767-200. The 300 to Sanford, and the 200 to Paphos.

Ummm. Easily.

Them and Britannia, and Airtours and First Choice all have 2-4-2 on the 767 (though First Choice wont be for long.)

Charters aren't the only ones squeezing the seats in.. even EK are at it!  Laugh out loud

In all seriousness, I flew a couple of long hauls in a BY 767 and seat width really didn't bother me. It was perfectly comfortable.. maybe a little snug, but nothing bad.

Well I think your lying, or just do not know what airline you flew on. SFB is a new route from this Summer, so unless you can travel through time, you haven't been there with XLA Big grin,

Good to hear about the good legroom!

There is one good thing about XL. They have IMO very attractive F/A's!

If I remember correctly its a dark blue uniform with a turquoise bit around the neck. Kind of like the seats! Big grin

Sounds ok, there's nothing worse than a flight with bad F/A uniforms, just look at Flyniki!
