Why Can´t Southwest Fly From Hobby

Fri Feb 04, 2005 12:04 am

Hey fellas, I was browsing WN website and foud this. WN can´t provide services from Houston Hobby further then Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Mississippi, and Alabama.
Why is that, they claim there´s a federal law, but why is that, any particulary reason???

here´s the link to they´r routemap

Uhh--thats Dallas Love field, and its due to the Wright Amendment. Do a search on here and you should find more info about the Wright Amendment; it has been a hot topic as of late with the DL DFW hub closure. They fly to the entire route system from Hobby.

Check the map again. The limited-services that you speak of are from IAH (which they're pulling out of) not HOU.

You might be getting confused by the route map because WN does fly to a lot of places from Houston Hobby. Hobby does not have restrictions on it that force WN to only fly to certain destinations.

I think Dallas' love fied restrictions imposed by the Wright Amendment are confusing you. WN can only fly to Texas and a select few bordering states with their 737s due to the agreement.

If you mouse over Houston Intercontinental, you will see that it only has flights listed to those bordering states. The reason for this is that as of now WN only flies from IAH to DAL, and you can connect in DAL to those limited destinations there. Houston Hobby has a lot of destinations shown.

WN shows connecting itineraries with a straight line (making you think that it is nonstop) on their route map, which is very confusing. Select the "Nonstop Service Only" feature to get a better representation of where they fly nonstop, rather than all valid routings.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!
