Does someone have more info on "freak weather conditions"? I don't get how snow in the Northern Hemisphere in early February is odd, especially in a high altitude country like Afghanistan.

According to their website www.flykamair.com, they operate a B737-200.

Given the location and time of year, the weather must be really bad.

I fear the worst.

In some ways, it might be best if they hit a mountain. I do not think that a belly landing is going to be survivable, and at least a mountain is quick.

Supposedly, it's been found, diverted to another airport... I hope so... I say "supposedly" as once KAL 7 went missing back in the 1980s, there were initial news stories that the aircraft had landed somewhere, which of course didn't prove to be the case...

That plane is down somewhere, it seems like it is a search and rescue now. Maybe somehow some survived and are waiting to be rescued. God bless them.

I believe the aircraft in question is a Boeing 737-200 Advanced; CN 22075/630, operated by Phoenix Aviation from the United Arab Emirates.

The aircraft saw first service in Canada with Nordair as C-GNDR as well as with LACSA as N238TA.

I am often puzzled that when a plane goes missing or crashes at the apparent confusion.

How is it that Peshawar and Kam Air did not know if the plane had landed or not.

Equally when a plane goes down, there are sometimes fluctuactions in the reported number aboard for several days.

A few month ago I read an article by a Danish air force ATC in the danish aviation magazine FLYV (in English: FLY). He was working at the airport in Kabul. He described the conditions as VERY primitive.
So I am not surprised that the plane has disappeared. Most of the Afghan airspace is not controlled.

What makes me wonder is that the plane did not have fuel enough to divert to another airport. Is that some sort of a mistake?

Dutch Apache helicopters are being deployed to locate the plane's wreck. The plane is definitely down. Apache's are used because of their FLIR camera's and to make sure rescue workers can work safely.

Cheers!

Yes, you will. I think there's a big diffrence between trying to land at a remote place like Kabul or landing at London-Gatwick.

Flying is still the safest way of transport!

Have a good flight!

Why not? The Bulgarians are used to that kind of weather and they know what they are doing. I have seen winter operations going on here in Canada in abysmal conditions as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Have a nice flight.

CNN saying residents in the nearby town of Butkhak which is 3.1 miles from Kabul heard a explosion the same time the airliner went missing.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/02/04/afghan.plane/index.html

Doesnt sound too likely that the plane is diverted somewhere as they claimed earlier.

my father just phoned from Turkmenistan, he frequents Kabul weekly with Ariana and also Azerbaijan airlines, he has flown domestic there a lot and said he was quite scared bc it could have been him.....

he said he received some info from Kabul about the crash.

The plane diverted to Pakistan initially, but then they decided to go back to Afghanistan, and tried to attempt Bagram, but the US wouldn't allow landing clearance, so they tried Kabul again, and then nothing else was heard....
I'm not sure if the likely cause is fuel starvation or CFIT....we will have to wait for official information release.

9 turks onboard RIP along with all else.

But really though why would the Afghani's DENY finding any wreckage of THEIR OWN airplane??? This whole thing sounds very suspicious to me.  Confused

That's what I heard from Kabul, that Bagram denied landing.

I know im speculating but, I doubt the US is heartless, perhaps there was no emergency declared at the time they requested Bagram, otherwise, i really doubt the US air base would say NO to an aircraft in Distress...

we will find out soon. I'm just glad my father wasn't on the flight, but im upset for the ones that were.
