737 is on a roll...

Two thoughts, one:

If I had the time to plot A320 vs. 737NG "dominance," I swear it would appear as a sine curve, the "prefered" product seems to change on an biannual period. I doubt Boeing has recouperated the lost ground yielded to major A320 wins (Air Berlin, Asian LCCs, ect) through 2003-2004, but the recent 737NG orders are promising. At least the Airbus spanking has slowed down  Big grin

Two,

Very interesting that the first Libyian order goes to Boeing. I suspect more orders from Lybia...

I'd echo all of what DfwRevolution said... just that he was quicker and more articulate than I would've been  Big grin

The periodic shift between Boeing and Airbus in this market isn't something I've considered explicitly before, but it does seem to happen every couple of years doesn't it? Clearly there's some strange aspect to the bread-and-butter ranges that doesn't affect both manufacturers' larger aircraft... strange!

Of course this was a major political 'Thanks USA', strangely close to the 11/15 contracts given to American Oil companies. Nevertheless, a good buy.
Now you're really flying

Yes, most likely a split order between Boeing and Airbus. Sorry Solnabo but the 777 is their preferred widebody. Most likely A320 Series will be their choice for narrowbody requirement.

LAA doesn't need a large aircraft as the 777.
The A332 is a more likely candidate.

No Solnabo you don't smoke what your smilie character is , as Llywdcatft say !!!!!!!!!!!! Also heard what you have heard too.

I expect Libyan airlines will also be ordering Airbus's, mainly because Blair got Libya out of the doghouse, even if France behaved poorly.

LAA doesn't need a large aircraft as the 777

Then why state their interest in it? No, I am not saying they will buy it, merely that they have expressed their interest in it and requested a response from Boeing in an RFP.

As I stated in my previous post I fully expect a split order from Lybian Arab though as others have pointed out Politics could well influence how the order is split.

Anyone who expects a logical decision from LAA (Late As Always), hasn`t had the dubious pleasure of working with Libyans. What they need will only be a small factor in the decision. What Qaddafi wants, what the heads of LAA want, and most important of all, who offer the biggest kickback (baksheesh is the local term), will settle the order. Throw in some blatant sucking up to the
USA, and who knows? I have flown LAA and Buraq, and Buraq is the better of the two, although not a great airline by most standards. I know they are hoping to get some new contracts flying to various oilfields in the desert, and a 738 would be a nice change from the 727s they operate now.

LAA doesn't need a large aircraft as the 777

LAA has publically said that they want the 777 and that they could use an aircraft of that size. It's purfect for opening (or reopening) routes to North America and Asia.
