Runway 27L At LHR

Fri Feb 04, 2005 10:45 am

Hi guys,

Whilst browsing through a few archive pics and stats, I noticed that runway 27L at LHR was previously referred to as runway 28L.

Why!!?

Can anyone explain this or shed any light!?

There may be a perfectly obviously answer, or this may be quite clear to someone, but not to me!

I am aware of the original Star of David 6-runway plan at LHR many years ago , but never heard of 28L

Can anyone help!?

Rgds, G-BOAF

P.S ... I goofed up and posted this in Non-Av first. Sorry for any repetition!

I know that magnetism changes, causing the numbers of runways to change with the new magnetic orientation. This has happened at other airports, and it sounds as if this is what might have happened at LHR.
