Jet Airways And Sahara Going To Singapore

Fri Feb 04, 2005 11:26 am

hi Folks
GOI has given clearance to S2 and 9W to fly to Singapore, there is also a subtle hint towards Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-1010843,curpg-1.cms

as for IC, they may be permitted to fly to LHR after summer of 2005.

Weren’t they planning to start their ASEAN services before European operations?
Daily ops from HYD were expected for S2, DEL sounds good. What word on 9W’s allotment?

no word on allotment. According to the article, as India has "open skies" policy towards ASEAN, there won't be any problem as far as allotment is concerned, that is in spite of AI/AIX/IC's future plans.

Any word on when and where Jet or Sahara will be flying to the Us now that there is a new open skies agreement with the United States? What equipement would they order to take advantage of these new long haul routes. I would hope that Jet and Sahara would eventually consider the 787/777 combo!

9W and S2's biggest concern will be leasing capable widebodies - the leasing market has really picked up. Alteast with ASEAN countries, the NGs will have no problem. I'm quite sure we'll see an announcement soon regarding short haul int'l services.

I guess people can now look forward to seeing 9W in SIN on a regular basis outside of their maintainenace flights. As far as 737 vs 777.... if the price is just right I'll do it on a 73 without complaining... they may have to increase legroom on those flights though. Though 9W's service is excellent, I always found the legroom too tight in coach, and I am not even that tall, but its fine as long as its short haul domestic.
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

From the article:

A-I operates flights from Mumbai to Singapore.

Again shotty Economic Times reporting. I believe that every Mumbai-Singapore flight stops in Chennai

Your belief is incorrect in that case.

Now if they merged the two carriers, AI could fly straight to BOM without having to worry about the stop. But I guess some things will never change in good old india. Gotta love it!
I've flown on 9V-SPK.

Actually, kkfla737's belief is more correct than it is incorrect.

All of AI's flights between Bombay and Singapore stop at least once enroute, including in Madras, Hyderabad and Kuala Lumpur.

Plus, there's the belief-defying flight that goes BOM-DEL-SIN!

I came to hear from a friend pilot who flies for Jet that they have 6 available slots at LHR. Is it that easy get slots at LHR? If that is true, from when is from jet planning to fly to LHR?

Thanx,
George
Happy Landings :)

Karan, as an aviation aficionado your choice may be something different from what the 'aam janta' will choose. For instance I'm planning to fly a Russian/ CIS airline/airliner for my next European trip just for the experience (Maybe even Syrianair for the 747SP experience).

Believe me if the PRICE is right, people will choose the 73NG - irrespective of narrowbody, lower standard IFE (none at all in the present scenario unless 9Ws female f/a's decide on shorter skirts) etc. over and above SQ.

Moreover a significant share of SQ's traffic is 6th freedom beyond SIN to USA / Oz and Far East. Until 9W either has widespread network to these regions or has reasonable SPAs with airlines in the region for points beyond SIN, they are going to be picking up a far higher proportion of 3/4th freedom traffic to/from SIN per flight than SQ.
