Extra Cockpit Computer Airbus 340-600

Sat Feb 05, 2005 12:12 am

On my flight back from KUL I was in the cockpit and noticed the computer with all the data in there. You even can read it on the photo ( Camera Canon 1 D Mark 2 )

Is this standaard or not and what is he doing with that data uploading or is it a short of map like in the new BOEING 777 planes

It´s TOPAS (Take-off Performance Analysis) from Lufthansa´s Lido:

The latop is in the cockpit to ease the work for the Crew prior take/off. The computer calculates the required datas out of these inputs:
- weight
- balance
- temp
- wind
- runway
- a/c conditions
- power settings
- rwy conditions

output:
- all speeds during take/off
- distances left at certain speed (during take/off)
- distances covered (at certain speeds during take/off)

For detailed information and a detailed look at the monitor, download this pdf from Lufthansa-System (in english):
http://www.lufthansa-systems.de/de/resource/document/pdf/pb/pb_topas.pdf
You´ll find a detailed output of the screen in the document, as it is shown in the a.net pic  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Ah, and yes, it´s common for Lufthansa
and no, what I know, no maps are in the computer, it´s still paperwork.

Greetings
M
