2005 Orders For Boeing Going Well?

Sat Feb 05, 2005 1:54 am

The following article is a little misleading as it counts options http://www.thestreet.com/_googlen/stocks/transportation/10207500.html?cm_ven=GOOGLEN&cm_cat=FREE&cm_ite=NA but if you count the orders Boeing had gotten in the past week (98) + the outstanding orders for the 787 that need to be firmed up this year (70) + orders already announced and booked on Boeing's web site http://active.boeing.com/commercial/orders/index.cfm about 20. That shows that Boeing has close to booking 200 orders this year. Not bad.

As do I. And for the airlines, as well.

It can be an excellent year for Boeing:
potential orders for the 787 from:
Emirates, ILFC, Qatar, Singapore, Lufthansa, Air Canada
potential 772LR orders from Singapore.
Potential 737NG orders from Malaysia.

Anything I'm missing?

This could be a very good year for Boeing. I haven't seen to many aircraft order announcements for Airbus. Does anyone have any information? Or are the airlines waiting to see the A-380 fly in March?

I would thikn they'll wait to see data from the A380 testing program before deciding to place orders.

NYC777,

Yeah, I suppose any airline that uses MD-11s freighters might be interested in the 772LRF.

Another potential customer for the B787 is apparently AY as, I think, they announced that at least they were looking at it.

AY is Finnair. If you put your cursor over the code, you will get a meta tag with the name. Same applies for city codes.

I believe they (and Airbus though not sure) wait until they negotiated the final sales contract before posting to the web site as a done sale. Essentially a the point Boeing is committed to deliverin the airplane (which means ordering parts from contractors and sub-contractors) and the airline is committed to paying for the plane at delivery. There are finacial penalties if neither counterparty adhears to the contract.

Can't forget AI might be in for and combined order for 777/787 as well. And LOT for the 787. That's hot!

"All these orders for Boeing....when do they post these orders on there website? Do they wait til its in ink to post there sales?"

Boeing is very conservative about adding announced orders to the order summary on thier website. It can take months before an announced order is confirmed and added to the table. They should start a separate table summarizing "announced orders" so us nerds can keep informed easily.  Wink/being sarcastic

A very good year for Boeing so far, with the NG and the 787 shining. Let's see how their other star product (777) shapes up.

Yes they are off to a great start. I would like to see the 787 orders firmed up.
JAL just ordered 30 737NG and with Ethiopian 787 order that puts them well over 200 for the maonth of January and February. They only had about 290 all last year I think. If they announce a 747 Adv later this year, it could mean a banner 747 year too! That would be awesome! Big grin

I normaly don't get in to these boeing or airbus threads.. .but....

None of the manufactures make any order public until it signed.... wish means that Airbus for example have Virgins order for A346s, Northwest order for A333/A332 , Lufthansas order for more A346s and a lot of A32X orders etc, but they havent been signed yet.
They will soon make this public and signe for these orders, and all the sudden A have a lot of orders for widebodies and A32X this year.

The same goes for Boeing - They have a lot of options and comitments for the 787 but stil no signed orders... they will come - but aint signed.. Its a huge differense.....

I think they will. The 787 has a ton of momentum and we'r not even through two months of 2005. I think the excitement will only build. Can't wait to see the first fuselage pieces of the 1st airworthy prototype...only two years away!!

Anything I'm missing?

ANA 4 773ER consisting of 2 new & 2 763 conversions to 773ER.

Though not a direct order, I'm surprised there has been no mention of the 9 738 that CZ firmed with GECAS in January.

I was surprised to see above that someone said potential 787 orders from Air Canada.

Is this right??? I thought AC was very much an Airbus fan although they do fly a lot of 763's.

Are there any routes that particularly lend themselves to the 787 versus their existing fleet for AC?

It is unlikely that Boeing will regain #1 in deliveries before the 787 starts being delivered, however regaining the initiative in terms of net orders would be a great achievement and indicative of a level of commitment to improve that has been lacking since the 777 was developed.

Watch for increasingly shrill press releases and announcements from Airbus trashing the Boeing products.

They may regain #1 number of order. But I wonder about in number of passenger seats? An A380 and A340 have a lot of those. Or perhaps tons of aircraft, to take in freighters.

In fact, I also wonder how the order shares would look over the past two years.

Anyone know where to find this info?
