EI And BWI - Did I Miss Something?

Sat Feb 05, 2005 10:48 am

Did I miss something and EI quit serving BWI? I haven't seen their planes for the past week or so at work and have searched their website and have been unable to locate a press release stating that service has been discontinued. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks in advance.

They have discontinued the route on December 1, 2004. Three times weekly scheduled charter service from Dublin to Orlando has started on December 2, 2004. I believe the original plan was to resume Dublin-Shannon-Baltimore services in spring but the Dublin-Orlando services seem to be doing very well, they will even add a fourth weekly flight later this year, so I guess they will stick with Orlando instead of Baltimore for now.

Thanks for the info. While I'd heard about the MCO flights, I wasn't sure where the a/c were coming from. I guess this answers two questions. Hopefully they do return, as BWI is a great airport and helps you avoid a lot of the traffic of going int'l out of IAD.

How is EI's Shannon-BWI service doing? Profitable? How are the loads on this route?

It doesn't exist anymore. That's what the point of the thread is.

The loads on SNN-BWI were not the best in terms of the other US destinations but thats not to say it wasnt profitable. BWI was dropped immediately after 9-11 being the least lucrative route however it was restarted after about a year and a half. The current suspension was seen to be temporary whilst they test the waters on the Orlando "scheduled charter". EI were expected to restart BWI from the end of March however since the schedules have not been re-entered and since Orlando is now bookable right through summer it can be taken that it is indefinitely suspended.
Next Flight: DUB-BOS (EI), BOS-DEN-PDX (SWA), SEA-BOS (AS)

The BWI service is certainly suspended through all of this year. I tried to make a booking for July and EI told me it was no longer being offered, so I'm on UA via CDG instead. While the service was convenient for those of us living in the Baltimore/Washington area the cabin service was pretty shoddy and really reflected the way EI has cut back on passenger comforts.
