1st A380 In Airline Livery

Sat Feb 05, 2005 11:55 pm

The first A380 wearing an airline livery will not be an SQ machine.
It will be C/N 001 in Emirates color scheme and will be presented to the Dubai Air Show next December.
This plane will not go to EK.Will be painted only for the Show.

That would be a great PR move by Emirates - and Airbus seem to do anything for their best customer.
But what's the source?

The Dubai Air Show is in November this year.

It would be smart of Airbus to paint the A380 in 'relevant' colours - e.g. Air France for Paris, Emirates for Dubai, etc.

First A380 Airline Livery

Sun Feb 06, 2005 1:30 am

A question, how will the A380 will be transported to Dubai? Via ground or air already?
Thanks,

Adam,

First flight is just about 2 months away, so the A380 should certainly be ready to fly to Dubai in November or December. In fact, she is expected to be flying to the Paris airshow in June (or it July?)

Next flight.... who knows.

The 747 was in operation only a few months before the first one was blown away by an act of terror. This was a stunning and gut wrenching event shortly after the plane went into full service. I pray the aviation community remembers this and closes ranks to secure this craft, and not allow the ignorant primitive terrorists of the world to draw attention and start blowing these giant airliners up.

They say the show will take place in the first week of December.

As you say they do anything for their best customers.

Airbus should stick to their new corporate colours for Paris and DXB shows. Build the brand. Boeing is doing this.

Would be great to see Airbus to get one A380 painted in QF colour for the Avalon Airshow in March as well

This is actually a pretty good point, since the traveling public is pretty much ignorant when it comes to these things, and it's just my feeling that they might associate the A380 with Boeing because of the whole "jumbo jet" thing, and think that its a bigger 747.

It's a great PR move for Emirates, but I think Airbus should probably have kept it in the (very nice) company colors.

Just curious: Will it be a new c/s for Emirates, or are they keeping the current one?? There was some talk about getting a change with the A380. Any news??

Thanks,
KA.

Why doesn't Airbus keep the A380 in their corporate livery the for its first flight? I recall reading that the prototype 747 remained in the Boeing corporate livery when it first lifted off into the sky. i think that might have helped the 747 sell better since it was in Boeing's corporate livery, it promoted Boeing, not Pan Am, the 747 launch customer. Airbus ought to paint. IMO, the A380 needs to stay in its corporate livery. I do not want to see an A380 in EK colors unless it is actually going to be delivered to EK. A corporate livery to me just seems more appropriate for the first flight of a revolutionary jumbo such as the A380.

I understand Airbus. Emirates is the biggest customer for the type to date and even if some majors may one day fall for the praise of the A380, it will always be a large customer.

On the other hand, selling the brand... Yeah! The public at the air show will for sure know it's an Airbus A380, not a new Boeing type. And the rest of the world would anyway think it's a Boeing A320 or an Airbus 747, that's when they reach as far as thinking about the aircraft they fly aboard.

Will be in Dubai around Easter, too bad for the air show. I still hope to see some nice birds as a side dish to the trip.

On our American friend's comment: no comment.

Nsfguy,

A victim of Georgie's propoganda scheme, aren't we?

As for the topic, a great marketing tool being utilized by Airbus for its customers. Would make sense to paint either in Air France colours or House colours for Paris in June. And most know that this aircraft isn't a Boeing tool, therefore the lack of need to keep House colours on it. And let us not forget, it will be presented in Nov/Dec '05, not the Paris Air Show which is June. Thus, it will be displayed in both House colours and EK colours and whatever colours host countries may choose.

Lockheed1011

"Why Emirates and no SQ"

Simply as EK is the largest customer and the Dubai Air Show will take place at their home base. It's a "thank you" to EK , coming from Airbus.
Also it's a kind of compensation to EK , not to have been the very first airline to put it in service , as SQ will it be.
It's not the first time Airbus says "thank you" to EK.
I remember already once , also at the Dubai Air Show , Airbus has sent one 330 or 340 (do not remember precisely) with "thank you to Emirates" titles.

Would like to point out i love your username.

NSFGUY why would you say something like that? And where in the hell did it come from? I mean.... you pulled that one out of your ass.... The problem with the world today is that everyone seems to be only worried about terrorism... and thats what they wanted all along.... to disrupt the normal lifestyle of civillian people.

Anyway's I am pretty sure this plane will be highly guarded, plus its much harder to get a bomb on an airplane these day's on these huge airliners, tell me the last time a Respectable European (not including russia), USA, Asian, or Large Middle eastern airline like Emirates was BLOWN OUT OF THE SKY BY A BOMB this new century.

Looking forward to seeing this ugly beaut in Emirates colors!

NSFGUY,

I don't know how to say this, but you need to realize that mankind have lived with terrorism for decades, if not centuries, and we humans (for the most part) seem to be alright. Ask any Englishman about terrorism, and they'd tell you it isn't the end of the world. It is just like any other criminal act, only bigger in scale, and there are ways of combating it.

I remember Bill Mahr on CNN a couple months ago, commenting on what he called the "election of fear", where people were told "if you vote for the wrong guy (Kerry), you're going to get bombed, Johnny Jihad will drive a bomb into your house."

Reality is that you cannot live in fear. You can't stop flying because of 9/11, the same way you can't stop sending you kids to school after Columbine.

I just felt I had to say something. Cheers.

ViveLeYHZ,

Your words are gold.  Big thumbs up

Back to the subject:

It would be nice to see the tail painted in EK livery and the fuselage in the liveries of all A380 customers. Just like some of the Star Alliance aircraft.

Now that we have Thai's new livery they can forget bothering to paint it in Thai colours for any airshow.

The Emirates scheme is ok, but I would rather see it in Qatar or Korean colours first.
