American Airline 777 Longhull

Sun Feb 06, 2005 5:09 am

I am flying from LHR-ORD on aa097 on a 777. In March. My question is what is the best seat to have for leg room. As i am a tall person. And on a budget for the lowest seat.
I would be greatfull if someone can get back to me. Adam

The seats by the exits, at row 31- 31A, 31B, 31H and 31J. I don't think they are assigned in advance, but given out on the day of the flight. If you can't sit there, try row 20, seats 20C and 20G, by the bulkhead, or 30C or 30G, which are across from the exit seats.

Any seat on a 777 is a good seat.  Smile

Well, on-line check-in is not available internationally yet so, get to the airport early! Depending upon the airport, sometimes getting there early isn't so bad - you can shop at some airports like they are malls.

The windows on row 31 are, indeed, the seats to have. I had 31A between JFK and NRT (14 hours each way!) and the huge amounts of leg space made the trip much more bearable.

I don't think they are assigned in advance,

Actually they are, but only to AAdvantage members with status I think. I had been holding those seats a couple of months in advance.

The seats on the AA777's are all pretty decent actually. I flew on them recently MIA-EZE-MIA .... 8 / 9 hours respectively. I, being 6' 2" am pretty tall, but I found a few comfortable positions to sit in. I did sit in 32A. Just one row behind the coveted 31A/B, where the exit DOOR (like a full door...) is (ie, there is a huge area to put your feet in). I was pretty envious to say the least  Big grin

RamerinianAir....what do you mean by "online check in"?.. from your post, it seems you are are referring to "online seat selection"...that can be done for international flights on AA.com....the "online check in" is a bit different than the actual seat selection for a flight..........

Doing a 'checking in' online which is like printing out your boarding pass (no need to wait in line to get a boarding pass) which applies to DOMESTIC flights only.

That is correct about being AAdvantage member in order to select your own seats.
I have done it before online which was for a 767-200ER or 300ER from JFK to AUA.

yes, you can only pre-reserve the exit rows if you are an AAdvantage member of status: gold, plat, exec plat.

the other option i enjoy is the last four rows, specifically row 40--mid section. the row is reduced from 5 to 4 seats--giving you greater room and floor storage space, plus the tv is in the armrest and thus the seats are farther apart (the armrest is nearly twice as wide) putting you farther away from your neighbor. i like this row, especially during flt 90 the morning flt ord-lhr because it is near the lavs and is a good location to get up and walk about.

but i wouldnt hold your breath on the exit row the day of, as they do seem to be taken way in advance.

On the London routes, it will be difficult to get the row 31 seats if you're not AAdvantage Gold, Platinum, or Executive Platinum. I fly these routes somewhat regularly, and always use my Gold status to get these seats. The London routes are always full of AA elites, so if will be tough to get.
