Canadian Airport Codes And The Y

Sun Feb 06, 2005 8:05 pm

I'm sorry if this topic has ever been brought up before. I just wanted to know why ALL major canadian airports have a Y at the beginning of the code. Is there some reason ? Thank you for answering

it seems redundant to me considering that they all also start with a C.
We're gonna do what we like to call a "jetBlue how do you do", which is slang for dumping a bunch of fuel in the ocean

Refers to whether or not they airport had a Weather reporting station. This is what I was told in ground school. However some smaller airports have a Y but no weather reporting, ie. CYSE, CYCW. Any ideas about this? It's something I have always wondered.
