Well today was the day of the US Airways expansion down here. It basically consisted of the addition of two more daily flights (one more PHL
and one more LGA
), the start of daily A321 service to Charlotte, and the expansion (once again) to a 3rd jetway. US has been operating out of just two for the past couple of months, as the airport has turned its former US Airways Express gates (A2 and A4
) into a large taxi cab waiting area. Now US has gates A6/7/8. The airline is hiring some ramp staff down here. No word yet on any CSA hirings. Here's a general rundown of of US operations here:
Charlotte (5 nonstops, A319/320/321)
(2 nonstops, A319)
Philadelphia (5 nonstops, A319/320)
Pittsburgh (1 nonstop, A319)
(3 nonstops, A319/320)
US Airways has now tied Delta (who would have thought that?) with each offering 16 mainline flights a day from here. Delta of course had the advantage equipment-wise.
It's nice to see that the airline can be successful somewhere, even if it is not one of its target markets.
