Seasonal 3rd FAT/DFW Flights

Wed Feb 09, 2005 3:10 am

Recently I was searching AA.com for flight options for some travel in May & June and expected to find the seasonal (May-Sept.) extra FAT service to DFW as an option. But, Nope...Not listed.

Perhaps one of you AA insiders have some insight as to why this service is not on (as of yet??) for this summer vacation season.

FAT is the closest airport to 2 of America's greatest National parks, Yosemite and Sequoia as well as Kings Canyon N.P. and to the best of my knowledge the extras have done rather well the last 2 years.

Thanks for any info.

Does anyone know what kind of yields AA is getting from DFW-FAT? I'm glad that FAT is sustaining DFW service, but in the central valley, Bakersfield people with AA miles are probably going to use LAX, and SMF and the bay area will pull people from north of Fresno.

Maybe it's just increased competition, and no further capacity is needed.

I know the tourists aren't heading to the central valley for the pleasant summer weather...enough years in Bakersfield taught me that!!

My guess is that it is tied to the restructuring going on at DFW. With the DL pullout AA is adding a number of flights. They probably are weighing the 3rd FAT flight against the yields on some of the other possible routes.

The AA press release on Monday about additional flights had a statement at the bottom that there were still 12 "Additional Flts. Yet to be Assigned". So maybe FAT might see one of those.

But it also clearly shows the 3rd FAT won't be coming back...
