NWA Emergency Landing At LGA?

Wed Feb 09, 2005 11:14 pm

Can anyone confirm that earlier today a NWA metal headed for JFK made an emergency landing at LGA due to some engine problem? Any details? I quickly caught a blurb about it on a New York radio station WABC 770.

It was an A320 that took off from LGA Monday night and diverted to JFK with engine problem. Normal landing. No big whoop.

Thanks Boeing 757/767. You know how media can be sometimes... the radio report completely blew it out of proportion.

normally here in the NYC area emergency landings take place at either JFK or EWR because of the size and capabilities of the airport. we'd all love to see a PIA 747 landing at LGA but for now that will be only true in phil's mind. LGA has short runways and smaller ARFF then JF does. usually when i listen to pilots briefing themselves while pushing them out of the gate they specifically mention that in a serious emergency they'd rather go to JFK.

It was a compressor stall in one of the engines, like was posted earlier, no big deal, plane landed without incident. On another note, a NWA DC-9 going to FNT last night as it was power backing, the ramp crew didn't bring it forward until it was too late, it backed into the mud behind gate 68, the passengers were off-loaded and the flight was cancelled, because the flight crew had to go for a Q&A, the flight left this morning @6:00. A/C#9621 was the one that was stuck in the mud, which they got it out after about an hour.

Hammer,

There's mud behind gate 68 at DTW? I thought if you ran off the back of the taxiway, you'd end up rolling into the roadway or parking deck. That alley is pretty wide too, enough for 2 aircraft to pass each other.

PSU, behind gate 68, 70 and so on, there is a small stretch where there is grass....it was right on the end of the concourse....that was what was so surprising how far back he rolled...it is quite a long roll...
