EWR CO Baggage Handlers In Coke Bust

Tue Feb 15, 2005 10:58 pm

According to the NY Times, six CO Baggage Handlers were arrested in a cocaine smuggling operation. Apparently, they were diverting luggage coming off of international flights from South America onto the domestic belts.

I am surprised more people arent caught for this sort of thing....seems kind of easy to do if you know what your doing!

Unfortunetely, drug smugglers will always come up with a new way of doing business.

PS: Does this mean that a few positions are going to be opening up in EWR? Where do I send my resume?

Huh. They must have been doing it more cheaply than the MIA AA rampers. I thought they got the contract after EAL went under...  Insane TC

The amount of coke gushing into airports like JFK, EWR, MIA, LAX must be truly incredible. Of course it happens every day on a large scale... who says the airline business doesn't pay?  Big grin

Are the owners of the bags in on the scheme? If so do they then have the audacity to claim that the airline lost their luggage?

I am surprised that the US government hasn't done more to stop this. To me the easiest thing to do would be put dogs on the ramp during unloading of the "drug markets". Now that the US government is involved in all aspects of airport security it seems that having a couple more dogs at the high risk airports would only make sense. At least thin the amount of illegal rampers.

I doubt the owner of the bag is actually on the flight. It would be coordinated by the rampers in BOG or wherever the flight is coming from. There is a reason bags and passengers are rescreened upon arrival into the US.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.
