Lan Airlines Livery Copycat?

Wed Feb 16, 2005 8:00 am

Hi

I guess some canadian funnyhead thought it might look great to adopt a livery used by an airline on the continents antipode .. or what other logical words can be found for this:

C-FFAL never was in use with LAN ... and yet the liveries look way to simmilar!

Or is there something I'm not aware of?

Now I really see LAN have a big copycat problem.....

They had a scandal with their old logo that looked very similar to that of a Hotel chain

Rootsair .. yes, that Hyatt trial was not that big an issue.
LAN presented it's new livery earlier last year and now that Canadian airlines comes up with that LAN lookalike livery. I wonder how Falconbridge want's to declare that.

Maybe the liveries were made by the same designer?

The new LAN livery sucks anyway compared to the old one (which was one of the most beautiful liveries ever in my opinion). It is absolutely beyond me why they changed their complete identity and not only their name (that was actually not a real name change, only the "Chile" dissapeared from the titel).

As for the Canadian airline, looks indeed like a cheap copy of the LAN livery but maybe there is a reason for it.

This is possible but I can imagine that LAN would be really pissed when the guy who designed their livery is using almost the same design for another airline.

Indeed, and even more if the guy belongs to a highly-recognized firm such as FutureBrand. I frankly doubt that the Canadian carrier shown in the picture had hired FutureBrand, Landor or Interbrand personnel to design their image...

We don't know that for sure though. Remember that the regos change and that the airlines -specially when operating aging metal such as the 732 shown- use a wide variety of them (737-204 vs 737-2R8C/Adv).

My guess is that the former operator of C-FFAL was Lan with another registration or that it was prepared for it but was never taken (NTU). I don't believe in the copycat, same designer or same artist thesis.

I do. The livery on C-FFAL has some slight variations when compared to the LAN livery, such as the location of the red "mustache" on the tail, the way it's been painted differently, and the slightly darker colours (could be lighting, though), so I'm going to lean on the side of a copycat.

Nah it has to be a recently aquired aircraft that lan D-checked to sell. The livery is not only similar, it IS Lan´s livery. They just added some stickers.

You know you can click on the c/n reference in any of the photos in the database, and it will bring up a page with all the photos on a.net for that construction number.

For instance: 21711/573

It appears this plane was not with LAN prior to being converted and painted. It was in Africa before being brought up to Canada sometime between mid-2003 and mid-2004.

Cheers.  Smile

I did a further search, and the plane used to belong to Air Tanzania...

I think someone at Falconridge liked the LAN livery... can you say lawsuit? The only differences are the logos, and a slight variation of the silver stripe under the verticle tailplane....

Nicely done...maybe (as I have recently said)... imitation is the greatest form of flattery... if you don't get sued first!!!

It's not LAN's livery but something painted to look similar. This was also completely stupid.

Arcano,

any plane in Gstar livery yet?

Miami

Not news at all, pretty weird for me since the summer season holiday is ending. I'm not even sure that their announced 727 is in the country yet.
