Aeroflot - Moscow-US West Coast Destinations

Thu Feb 17, 2005 2:56 am

I noticed Aeroflot operate to LAX, SFO and SEA...

What route would these flights takes, would they travel westbound over Europe or would they travel eastbound over Russia?

What equipment does Aeroflot operate on these routes and what is their longhaul service like? I have searched on google and is only bringing up their British website in English and only gives details of their flights between the UK and Russia.

Many Thank
Giles

Actually SU dropped SFO.In regards to flight routing. They travel eastbound from Europe like all the other European carriers. They then depart back heading across northern USA and southern Canada on the return flight. The SEA flight does take a more northern track, more along the like of SAS's flight routing.

Aeroflot's first flights to SFO were Il-62Ms to ANC and Khabarovsk, then later ANC-SVO. Then came the Il-96 which flew nonstop to SVO I think-- part of the time anyway. Forget whether their 767s came here...

Actually Timz, for a while we had IL-62 and IL-96 operating from SFO. SU operated about 5 flights a week. We (Alaska/Ogden ramp services) had the contract to ramp/passenger service them. What a interesting operation. But later on, yes, the 763 did operate here on the non-stop before the 772 picked up SFO as an add on from the SEA flight. I'm still surprised they pulled out all together. We still carry a good 30-40 passengers every day they operate from SEA.

Their official website is www.aeroflot.ru and you can search a variety of trip reports here and in the discussion forums if you'd like more information.

What do they fly to LAX? Do they still fly the 777s to SEA? If so, are they going to return to the 763 or the IL-96 when the 777s get returned?

I see the Moscow-Seattle flight on AirNav Live now and then. It is a straight line across upper Greenland, north of Baffin Island and above Hudson Bay. It then diagonals across the mid- and western Canadian provinces right into SEA.
