DFW Founders Plaza

Thu Feb 17, 2005 8:45 am

Last week I was on an evening arrival from STL - DFW. When we landed, we taxied right in front of Founders Plaza. Out captain flashed one of the lights on the side of the plane facing the plaza ... and one of the cars parked at the plaza was flashing their headlights at our plane.... Anyway, I thought it was kind of fun and thought I would share  Big thumbs up

Pilots taxiing by often are very friendly and wave at the people who go there to watch planes. It's a really neat place to watch at DFW. It's always nice when the wind's from the North and the planes land close by. When they land from the north though, they sometimes taxi right by Founders.  Smile

We know for you it's not just a seat on a flight to a place. It's a seat on a flight to your life.

I usually see a friendly wave from the MD80 pilots rolling by Founder's plaza when I'm there. Its nice to get some acknowledgement from the pilots!

Does anyone know how you can tell before you go if they'll be landing from the north? That makes the trip that much more worthwhile...
That's why we're here.

I'm going to be in DFW Mar:6-11 on business but may have some time to do a little spotting/photography.
Anyone have directions to Founders Plaza from Richardson?
What's the best date/time to capture AA777 and international movements?

Cheers,
Kaz

Here is one for you, I met an engineer from the Dallas area several years ago. His summer job while going to college was for an equipment co that had contracts for the upcoming construction of DFW.

His first assignment was to brush hog a field in the middle of nowhere, now founders plaza, for the ground breaking ceremony at DFW.

If you check the weather and the winds are from the SE,S, SW they will be landing from the north. If they are from the NW,N,NE they will be landing from the south. By chance we get strong winds out of the W they will only land on 31R, and 31L pretty cool to see them banking to land over 36R.

Around 9am AA has about 3 777 land but the best time to see international is from 130pm to 430pm. From Richardson take 635 west to it runs into the airport. Get on the Southbound service road and turn left at crossunder #5. You should go infront of Fire Station #5 go straight through the light and turn left infront of the fire station, once you get to the stop sign take a right and follow the road around 35L,35C. Founders Plaza will be on your lefthand side.

Thanks AirStatDFW, much appreciated.
I'm looking forward to getting some nice AA777 pics while in town.
