Non-Duplicate Routes By UA & AA From ORD?

Thu Feb 17, 2005 11:48 am

With UA and AA both having large hubs at ORD, which routes are not served nonstop by both airlines? I know that UA has several routes to Asia from ORD that AA doesn't, but what about domestic, Canadian, European and South American routes? Thanks for your input.

Doesn't UA have ORD-ABE, while AA doesn't?

I don't think AA has an ORD-MUC or ORD-ZRH. On the same token, AA serves several S.A. routes that UA does not.

Neither UA or AA fly ORD-ZRH. AA used to, however.

The only South American routes served out of O'Hare are both operated by United, ORD-GRU and ORD-EZE. AA does not operate any South American routes from O'Hare.

Hmm, did AA move them all to MIA then? And I got confused with IAD-ZRH, you are correct, only Swiss flies that route now (ORD-ZRH).

No. AA has never operated O'Hare-South America. Since entering the market, AA South American routes have only operated from six US gateways: Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, New York City/JFK, Orlando, and San Juan. FLL and MCO currently don't have S.A. service on AA.

AA flew ORD-DUS until a few years ago. UA then picked up the route but it is now flown by LH with UA codesharing on it!

More than a few years ago. IIRC, they have not operated this flight for more than a decade.

UA doesn't fly to Ashville, NC. UA does fly to ABE, it's Express service.

United has the ORD-SMF route cornered. American tried this route a few months ago, but it didn't last too long. UA was able to hold AA off and run them out.

Has anyone else heard of Colorado City? Are you thinking of COS? That is Colorado Springs.

Actually, UA does serve ZRH out of ORD. It is a direct flight--not nonstop-- with a stop in DC. UA936 leaves ORD 1315 arrives at IAD 1614 and then leaves for ZRH at 1755.
What do I know? I just fly 'em.......

AA wasn't ran off. It was a seasonal, summer-only service. AA has not decided if they are going to resume it this summer, though I don't think they will.

Also, yes, I totally left off some of the seasonal, Caribbean destinations served by UA from O'Hare: Aruba, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas.

Are they seasonal or year round? Also UA has KOA-ORD, although the ORD-KOA stops in OGG.

Only AUA is year-round, the rest are seasonal.

Also, to note, ORD-GCM has been suspended.

PUJ (Punta Cana) is unique to UA from ORD. 4-5 times per week.
