Alaska Makes It "Official", It's Starting DFW

Tue Feb 22, 2005 5:06 am

Just got an e-mail from Alaska Airlines through my e-mail updates thing for the mileage plan. They have formally announced non-stop service to DFW, kicking it off on July 19th, 2005. They are also kicking it off with promotional fares starting at $149! Makes me wanna try to get on the inagural flight! lol.

"The biggest news this week is that you can fly Alaska Airlines
nonstop to Dallas/Fort Worth, beginning July 19, 2005. Introductory
sale fares start as low as $149 (USD) each way to or from Seattle.
Round-trip purchase required. Additional restrictions apply."

So are things not actually "official" until you specifically receive an e-mail about it? Press releases and so on don't count?  Big grin

Well, I guess somebody had to do it. I hope they can repeat David vs. Goliath. AA will compete on this route with everything they have. The will flood it with seats and cut the fares until Alaska pulls out.

No...but as I recal Alaska only posted this information on the employee website, right?? Nothing publically to it's customers? I could be wrong...but just because they post it on the employee website, doesn't make it "public knowlage", right??

And again...the employee website isn't something the general public knows about, is it guys????

Stop biting my damn head off about it. Jeez. They made a public announcement. Just because Yahoo, or some other news organization posts a rumor, or an expected announcement, doesn't mean it's official until it comes from the airline itself, right???

It was also on www.alaskaair.com which is our public website last week. Sorry, I'm not trying to nitpick, but was official a week ago!

I wasn't biting your head off; just teasing a bit (hence the wink).

FWIW though, the official press release was submitted to various news outlets and media on February 11th.

can we say, we need the wright amendment to go away? and soon...WN could easily compete w/ alaska, on a dal-sea route. Whats taking do long? we need that amendment gone, and fast.

WN would not do well in the SEA-DFW route. 4 hours packed in like sardines listening to singing flight attendance, please! That is after the humiliating "cattle call" just to get your middle seat.

AA and AS would defend this route to the death. I have to believe that AA and AS have some kind if "gentelman's" agreement out of this new route. In SEA WN has marginal presence at best.

Actually I think AS will do fine on the route. Due to DL dropping DFW's hub status, it opened a few needed airlines to take on some routes.

Is AS really flying the route, or is it placing its code on flights operated by AA?

Both. AS already codeshares with AA on the route, but they're adding two flights with actual AS metal.

DAYFlyer said the following Well, I guess somebody had to do it. I hope they can repeat David vs. Goliath. AA will compete on this route with everything they have. The will flood it with seats and cut the fares until Alaska pulls out.

Not so. AA and Alaska have an efficient code sharing agreement. If anything, I would expect to see AA work the code share on this flight, and free up equipment for other ventures. Regardless, don't hold your breath for retaliation from AA.
See you up front!

That's $149 EACH WAY. So that makes it about a $300 round trip ticket.
