Wow, another thread about SEN
...who would of thought it!
The picture you linked was of a plane landing on 06. Now, there are barriers going across the road to stop people from driving past the threshold when something is coming in. Before the barriers were installed a few months ago, people use to drive through the red flashing lights.
As for the 707 - we use to get them all the time at SEN
, now we only have one left - SAT
Sakhalin Airlines (Russian Federation)">HZ-123.
They tend to use 24 more than 06 due to the pravailing winds. At the moment we only have one FlyBe route to Jersey, but there are rumours of new routes starting up - although I will have to see if before I believe it!
The airport survives on Mantainance, we have some big companies on the airfield who are usually busy with contracts with various airlines and private owners.
Although, quiet - SEN
is a nice little airport, and we often get those rare planes that you wouldn't see at the main airports in the UK.
Southend will soon get a brand new Terminal, which should be completed by Summer 06, the airport will also recieve a new train station which will link it with London and Central Southend. Hopefully this will attract new airlines to the airport.
Edit - forgot something
