Emirates At FCO

Tue Feb 22, 2005 9:44 pm

EK has the following operation pattern at FCO

EK095 DXB-FCO-NCE Mo, Fr, Su

EK097 DXB-FCO-MXP-DXB We, Sa

EK093 DXB-MXP-FCO-DXB Tu, Th

All flights with EK's current largest plane a 773 with FJY. Wouldn't it make more sense to split flights (say DXB-FCO daily to six weekly, and DXB-MXP-NCE 4 to 5 times a week) and use samller a/c?

Cool. Nice to see EK going through MXP after FCO.

It would increase operational costs, and I dont think Italy can handle more than one daily EK flight. Note that NCE and FCO are lower yielding traffic if compared to MXP.

The problem is the Italian Government. It does not want to grant EK further traffic rights so as to protect Alitalia. As part of their current traffic rights, Emirates cannot serve MXP more than 4 times weekly AND the MXP flights must be combined with FCO.

If it were up to Emirates, EK would now be flying TWICE DAILY terminator services to MXP, plus a serparate daily service to FCO.

EK flights to Italy are almost always 100% full year round. Demand is much higher than supply and as emiratesskies mentioned if it was up to EK there would be as many as 3 or 4 daily flights from dxb to italy but this cannot happen for now as EK only have landing rights for 1 daily flight into italy.

I never even imagined that bilateral between both countries was so restrictive. Is that meant to protect Alitalia?
