Sun Country 737

Tue Feb 22, 2005 11:00 pm

I have been a viewer of the forums and now took the jump to member. This is my first post.

On March 20th, and 25th Sun Country will take delivery of 2 brand new 737-800's 808SY & 809SY. This will given us 7 of our own aircraft.

They will join 801SY, 804SY, 805SY, 806SY, and 807SY.

All aircraft have 12 First Class, & 150 Coach for 162 total pax.

Actually those delivery dates have been revised. Current schedule is:

N808SY delivery - March 15th
N809SY delivery - March 22nd

N808SY is being painted at the Renton plant (it rolled off the line this past weekend) so if there are any folks out there with cameras, you should be able to get some shots. N809SY is being painted at Boeing Field and will roll off the line this week.

Derik737, Thanks for the update, I work at SCA and see the Director of Maintenance, & the Maintenance Manger daily, plus others like COO and did not know. Things happen so fast.

We can't wait until we get them home.

Tango-Bravo as far as I know without winglets. It cost $1 million added to each A/C, and we are very tight with spending any extra money. If we don't need it, we don't get it.

Keep in mind, no eyebrows on these new deliveries. 807 is the last new delivery from SY to have them. Perhaps winglets will come after the planes have been delivered?????

It was great to see all the SY planes going around MSP this weekend. I am not sure I have seen it this busy with them in a long time. It seemed like every time I turned around there was a blue or green plane. Go SCA!

I think with fuel prices up again, SY should have put Winglets on the new planes and existing planes eventually.

Derik737,

I am SO glad SCY is growing and doing it with my favorite aircraft. I love seeing them at IFP. Will be back at JFK late March SO I will stop by when you guys can tell me either of the newer birds will be there. I have flown you, spotted you, photographed you!

Nothing like looking out on the Mojave desert and seeing a SCY 738 and the Colorado river!  Big thumbs up

Tango-Bravo: No winglets on the SCA birds yet. The SWA -700 between the new babies (line 1668) had some pretty winglets on it which I certainly admired (I think I commented on them to fellow employees every time I walked between ours). We are always evaluating options, so you never know what could happen.

Sunking737: You mean C, J and J?  Wink/being sarcastic Everyone will be happy to see them in home in MSP. The new interior sure is nice to fly on.

NIKV69: I'll be sure to let you know what's up. Thanks again for your enthusiasm!

NWA
DAL

AWA
KLM
Iceland Air
Air Canada
AAL
USAirWays
Sun Country
Champion
Frontier
AirTran
Midwest Express

Yep, there are not many choices now is there

Sorry to disappoint you NWAFA, but I didn't see UnitedRhapsody complaining about the lack of choices so your standard copy & paste response can't cut it here. I'll save you your next response, "NWA should move to Detroit, blah blah..."

On Topic: From what I have heard, as the price of fuel goes up, the price of winglets does too. So money saved right away comes out in the wash. I will enjoy the day a blue tail flies in with winglets on board. whew.  Big thumbs up

NIKV69 807 was in IFP over the weekend did you see her?

It is nice to see that everyone loves to see our planes. I was told getting the 737-800 was the only thing the "old" owner did right.

With the price of oil up again maybe more people will fly and not drive. 2005 is going to be wild, if you thought 2004 was just wait. I see more chap 11 in the forecast. Who will be next? Who will stay and who will go. Stay tuned !!!

Maybe after these two enter service, we can starting seeing more of Sun Country's own aircraft at SEA, rather than the Transavia hybrids.

Your comments are a total crock! Because I thank someone for flying on NWA,and mean it, Im wrong for that? Now more than ever I am thankful when people fly on NWA. I was pointing out that almost all major (U.S. carriers fly into MSP), which that user was trying to say that there was not much service).

I fly many carriers every month (and NOT Non-Rev either) and say good and bad things about them....is that not was this forum is all about?

No, but it's apparent you did not see the point I was shooting for with that. There are no issues with thanking anybody for flying NWA but as soon as anyone complains or suggests otherwise you have your copy and paste reply. I just know how it is.  Smile

Nothing beats those blue tails, but I can't complain whether the plane is blue or white. Either 737 with the sunburst on the tail looks good through my lens.

Derik737 and Sunking737,

Welcome to my respected user list!  Big thumbs up

You SCY guys are good men. Thanks for all the info, Derik737 has been great. SCY is my second favorite carrier and I spend my whole winter with them at IFP. I can get so close to their birds at IFP and it's awesome when they taxi out and rev those engines and go right past me! As soon as I get my new lens I will get much better pics of them here.

Sunking737,

You kidding? We are having rain here like you would never believe. Saturday we had the worst thunder storm go through with hail. Then a downpour that lasted 2 hours and rain after that. The roads were terrible. Some parts were 3 inches of dirt from wash outs all over. Arizona has done a better job clearing the roads than Nevada! I didn't venture too far since I don't need my new car getting hit by rocks and went to Vegas for 3 days. Just got back. I saw 807 a week ago here I was so excited. I should be at IFP for Flight 101 and 102 next 4 times, Thur, Fri, Sun and Mon. Send her here one of those days!

Again keep up the good work, I want an airline with an all 73G fleet that has 1st class cabins, great service and a great Livery, you guys should think of a special livery for some of your new planes. Think of something cool!

NIKV69 Thanks for the kind words I love my job at SY and all the people I work with. This summer we will have just 7 737-800's flying, no Transavia's. This came right from the CFO at a company meeting 3 weeks ago. If we get any Transavia birds next season, they would like to put in First Class. Hard to sell yourself as a airline with First Class when 6 planes are all coach...186.

They are looking for more planes for '06 and beyond. Keep in touch

Tom,

I will be there in the morning to catch flight 101. I left a message on your cell. Let's hit the seafood buffet at the Flamingo Friday night. If not just look for me at IFP Saturday morning. If it is cloudy I may not be there. Your invited to Brunch Sunday morning at the Nugget then. Call me!

Sunking737,

That's awesome! I was at IFP and got there just in time to see this beautiful sight!

Best I could manage with my 18-70MM lens. Still waiting for my 80-200!  Angry

Soon SCY will no longer need those horrible Transavia planes! Maybe one day SCY will tap the LAX-JFK route and get a new 767! How awesome would that be! The SCY livery on a 767 would look awesome!!

What UnitedRhapsody probably meant by "We need all the airlines we can get here in MSP!" is more non-stop services to points other than the hub cities of other airlines serving MSP. Perhaps something along the lines of NW's recent move into non-hub/point-to-point flights from MKE and IND. Whether any airlines would choose to "butt heads" with NW at MSP (as F9 did briefly in the LAX market) is for the people who make the big money to decide!

I went by Renton Field tonight and there was a freshly painted Sun Country sitting in Stall A3. She looks good. Didn't get a shot of her since there was so much ramp clutter around her. I'll get her on her B1 flight though.

F9Animal,

I believe it was 12 and 4 (after DC-10's 571, 572 and 573 left). The fleet thinned out in the last few months of old Sun Country. I'll double check tomorrow as I have an old fleet sheet around somewhere.

From just my memory, here are the aircraft you were asking about:

727-200
N275AF
N281SC
N282SC
N283SC
N284SC
N285SC
N286SY
N287SC
N288SC
N289SC
N290SC
N291SC

DC-10-15
N151SY

NIKV69 As of now the only thing they want is 737-800's. We just built a new hanger in MSP, 90,000 sq ft. 2 bays wide, and 2 planes deep. We had 807SY in it in Oct., on the left side, and had a hanger party on the right side. 2 party's over 2 days. 1st for travel agents, the 2nd for us employees. Both with a Halloween them. A good time was had by all.

I would like to see a 727 and a DC-10 in our new colors it would be so cool.

I would like to thank everyone for their nice comments, Even if we work for other airlines, we all have airliners in our blood.

That's right Tom, Flight 101 arrives Sun,Mon,Thur,Fri. 10:20AM. I got to tell you IFP was so chaotic the other day! Whenever a G4 and SCY flight is leaving the same morning the TSA has their hands full! The security line was out the side door!

I will call your cell tomorrow, If you can manage meeting me at IFP around 10AM Sun to see 101 and maybe a G4 departure and then we can go to the Nugget for some great eggs benedict! I am making the reservation for either noon or one so let me know!

I may be at IFP tomorrow (Sat) to catch the G4 departure, 10AM I think.

Sunking737,

727? DC-10? Are you mad?

This is the year 2005. SCY must look to the future! A brand new 767!  Big thumbs up

I have a question about Sun Country.. why is it when you do a dropdown of Laughlin/Bullhead City.. a WHOLE lot of cities drop down.. including cities Sun Country does not serve.. But yet the schedule says.. "Schedule not published yet".. are those future destinations or hopeful destinations? some sort of code share?

Delta ground handles Sun Country here in DFW, and what a great airline, great prices and wonderful crews to work with.

I agree they have probably one of the best liveries around in the industry. I was told that 807SY is/was dedicated to the Braniff employees who started Sun Country back in the early 80's.

They run a good operation to MSP and CUN from DFW with inflight meals. I have had several customers wanting to fly to MSP and were looking at NW, AA or DL these carrieres were all charging $600+ oneway....I directed them over to the Sun Country counter and they purchased oneway tickets for $190.00+. This is why they do very good.

I look forward in seeing the new birds!

Here you go guy and gals. http://www.avphotos.net

Click on the Sun Country shot for the other two photos. There was fog on one side and too much ramp crap on the other. Like I said, I'll get the B1 flight this week. Hopefully it won't be raining.

Some people are like Slinkies. They bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
