Airport Departure Tax In Colombia

Wed Feb 23, 2005 6:10 am

Hello Colombian friends,

Whats up with this year airport departure tax in Colombia?
Is it true that that foreigners are exempted for paying this tax? If so since when has Colombian regulation on departure taxes changed?
Or are they still 30 USD or 60 USD for more than 60 days? And what are the current prices (usd and/or Col pesos) for Colombian citizens.

Thanks in advance
Saludos

The policy has not changed, Anybody who lives in Colombia pays USD 51 of two taxes (30 + 21). Colombian citizens who live abroad and foreigners who spend less than 60 days in the country are excempt of the 21 dollar tax, so they only pay 30. Last week was 70.000 and 128.000 COP.

Quoting Bogota (reply 1):

Bogota thanks for the info!!

But some friends of mine (non Colombians) experience different things.
The flew with IB and AF without paying this tax. This happend some days and weeks ago from BOG to Europe. They were told that the tax was included/ already payed when they bought their tickets.
So some strange developments I guess... or so lucky?

I recently flew CTG-MIA on AV, after a week's stay, and paid USD$37 as departure tax.

Cartagena might have a different price, but NAVEGA if you come back to Colombia you are entitled to the tax exemption if you stay less than 60 days. You can claim it as you come in after passport control in a desk in front of the luggage carrousels or if not the day you leave in a booth across from the Iberia check in desks. I am surprised the Mexicana personnel did not warn you about the discount so you could get your exemption receipt.

I flew PTY-BOG-UIO-BOG-PTY on AV same day connexions in September 04. Southbound I stayed in the transit area, Northbound I cleared immigration, customs and all.

I did not pay any tax. I was told one has to pay when one leaves the transit area, regardless of duration of stay. In my case, I was told, the tax was included in the ticket price, because I had bought it in Europe. However, I had checked prices before booking, and they were identical, ticket bought in Colombia or abroad.

I flew with AF BOG-CDG-CPH Tuesday 22nd of Feb. I did not pay any tax because I was holding the DIAN tax declaration document which I filled in when I arrived in BOG 4th of Jan.

I saw some other passengers paying the tax because they did not have the DIAN document... I can't recall the price, but it was not a bargain.
