A Week In The Life - Southwest's N202WN

Wed Feb 23, 2005 2:34 pm

Well it has been almost a week since N202WN entered service. This is the newest 73G in the fleet and the second without "eyebrows." For those that are interested, this is her history to date:

Feb 17 - Operates as Flight 8501 BFI-DAL. Off at 17:22 and On at 22:37.

Feb 18 - Flight 779 (A/C #496) arrives ELP - DAL and N202 is swapped in its place to continue Flight 779 to AUS...its first revenue flight with 102 pax. And continues from AUS to: DAL-TUL-DAL-SAT-HRL-SAT-DAL.

Feb 19 - DAL-MSY-BHM-SDF-MDW-LAS-RDU

Feb 20 - RDU-BNA-OAK-ONT-LAS-BUF

Feb 21 - BUF-BWI-ISP-BWI-LAS-SJC-LAS-CLE

Feb 22 - CLE-MDW-LAS-SNA-PHX-LAX-SJC-SAN-LAS-CMH

Feb 23 - CMH-LAS-SMF-SNA-OAK-SNA-PHX-HOU

That made me tired just reading that routing.
If not now, then when?

Neilalp, thanks for creating the map...that was great! It looks so much more impressive in that form.

It's just amazing to me sometimes how much Southwest gets out of these birds. No wonder there is such a commitment to the old reliable, tried and true 737. What a workhorse!

28,942 miles in 7 days.... took me a year and a half to do that in my car.

ARGH! And I've been off these past couple days so I have missed it at SJC!! So I STILL have yet to see these new birds without eyebrows in person!  Pissed

N201LV was scheduled for a couple hours to come in to SJC on Saturday. Then dispatch decided to tease me and swapped it off that route before getting to SJC. BAAAAD OPNLguy!  Wink/being sarcastic

I was off that day, so ya can't pin that one on me...  Big grin I'm sure they had a good reason for swapping it (another aircraft OTS, a revised MX routing on something, etc.)

I have to clarify...on Feb 22 the nine cycles is not a normal line routing. Due to the weather on the west coast that day there were delays all over the place and N202 was swapped to a different line twice...at PHX and at SAN. She should have RON'd at ABQ but wound up back in Ohio where she started the day.

I don't have any specific figues, but if I had to venture a guess, it'd be 8 or 9 cycles. The daily utilization rate is still up there, 10-11 hours or whatever, but some of our aircraft only fly a couple of long flights plus one or two short ones, thus fewer cycles, and that lowers the daily average.

Wow, Now that is some good utilization of a new aircraft, 28,000+ flight miles in its first 7 days.

Sunking737....do you work for SCA out of MSP????

Compare the routing map to the map of WN's cities. Looks like they got 25 of 60 cities in only in one week!

Quoting N200WN (reply 0):
b 18 - Flight 779 (A/C #496) arrives ELP - DAL and N202 is swapped in its place to continue Flight 779 to AUS...its first revenue flight with 102 pax. And continues from AUS to: DAL-TUL-DAL-SAT-HRL-SAT-DAL.

Is this just something that happened, or is it policy to keep them pretty close to home the first day of flying?

Of course, TX is a pretty big home, but, nonetheless, closest to DAL Maint. than many other routings.

I don't know if it's policy but probably good practice to RON at the main maintenance base if any bugs were to develop during that first day of operation. I'll track the next new arrival also and see if it does the same thing.

I never doubt you guys have good reason to swap aircraft. Especially that day...weather was crap across much of the west. I mean SJC caused a bunch of swaps due to a plane getting struck by lightning on approach. Had to yank her out of service over-night.  Smile
