FAA Wants New Flight Data Controllers

New Flight Data Recorders

Looks like the FAA has finally gotten a plan together. Sounds like a good idea, espicially to reconstruct disasters. However is there a concern that too much can be recorded from each flight? Aren't they reset every flight if there is no incident, or do some airlines periodically pull records?

For a second, I thought this was another thread on controller hiring...  Big grin

The NTSB has long recommended improvements to cockpit voice and flight data recorders, and it's good to finally see some movement on the issue...

Why not spend money on a new air traffic control system? Wasn't Boeing doing something with that?

The Federal government would pay for that, wouldn't they?

Airlines would pay for the new black boxes.

As far as pilots protesting the installing of video cameras in the cockpit because they feel its an invasion of privacy.. I'm a bit confused about that. Their movements (control inputs) and voice are already recorded.. They have no privacy already..
Caution wake turbulence, you are following a heavy jet.

The government will pay for it because the airlines are broke. They will levy an new fee called the Data Recorders Fee on each ticket segment of $4.00 for one year on each flight in and into the USA.

Don't laugh...I would NOT put this past the government.
