Falkland Islands

Sun Feb 27, 2005 8:05 am

IM just looking on the internet and I have found direct flights from the UK (Brize Norton) to the Falkland islands does anyone have any more information on the sevices available on the flight (this flight is a military cargo one although the air force leaves spare seats for paying customer's!)
the captain has now dimmed the lights for take off this is a routine procedure for flights during the hours of darkness!

It's a miltary flight flying troops out there, but they sell so many seats to the public, not too sure how many though.
Why drive when you can fly?

Hello Samair,

May I suggest that you pay a look to the following thread:

http://www.airliners.net/discussions...eral_aviation/read.main/1932795/4/

If you read from reply no. 25 to reply no. 30 I am sure you will find quite a few answers to your question.

Saludos,

There are 6 seats per flight put aside for civilians although depending on the amount of MOD personnal this does change.

Here are the schedules BZZ-MPN - the flight operates via ASI (Ascension Island)

** AMADEUS - TN ** MPN MOUNT PLEASANT.FK 01MAR05 08MAR05
1 RR3200 1 BZZ MPN 2359 1505+1 1 08NOV04 --- L10 18:06
2 RR3220 4 BZZ MPN 2359 1505+1 1 04NOV04 --- L10 18:06

Here are the schedules for the flight back.

** AMADEUS - TN ** BZZ BRIZE NORTON.GB 01MAR05 08MAR05
1 RR3221 6 MPN BZZ 1200 0815+1 1 06NOV04 --- L10 17:15
2 RR3201 3 MPN BZZ 1200 0815+1 1 10NOV04 --- L10 17:15

These flights can't be booked from any GDS - you have to contact the Falkland Islands High Commission (or whatever) in London to book space.

I think its only L1011-500's (or whatever the RAF call them - KC1's ?) - possibly VC-10's fly down there moving troops or whatever, but the "scheduled" service is TriStars.

Quoting JGPH1A (reply 7):

Actually the Tristar has not been used on the BZZ-MPA route for some time as they are needed on the many other deployments that the British Forces are on, such as the Middle East, Afghanistan etc etc.

Instead the MoD have contracted the flights out, and they are currently operated by Air Luxor with the A330, usually CS-TMT, and the aircraft can be regularly seen on the ground at Brize Norton. The aircraft usually stops at Ascension Island on the way for a fuel and weather diversion stop in case the conditions foul up at Mount Pleasant. However I understand the contract will shortly be up and handed over to Air Atlanta Icelandic...

Thanks for the update - clearly the MoD hasn't bothered to update the published timetable.
