Webshot Picture Of Landing 747

Mon Feb 28, 2005 2:24 pm

Anyone else see the Webshot's Daily Picture of the 743 landing? It looks like they deliberately altered the photo to remove the name of the airline. Am I wrong in my opinion?

Beats me! But I am sure that the photographers wanted it not to be specific, as the title does not mention Boeing 747-300, it just says "Airplane".

looks weird w/o markings  Nuts

I'd say that would be a fairly safe bet, KLM would be more complicated to PS...I looked through a few websites' shots of the Corsair 743 @ SXM but wasnt able to find an exact match though...

It could be either Corsair or Air France, and I'm leaning towards the latter.

Using Photoshop on examples of both, it was easiest to maintain sharp edges on the tail and isolate the titles between the windows on each deck with AF, though not impossible to do with Corsair with a fine eye to detail.

According to the database here, AF sent both -200SUD's and -300's to SXM, and we don't know the age of the photo that was altered. It could have come from a stock photo agency. Since KLM doesn't have a white belly, it would take too much time to reshadow it, so KLM is only a long shot to me.

Cheers.

It's most likely AF, and not Corsair, as Corsair's 743s have P&W engines, while this one has GEs.

The credit says that they got it from a stock footage place, so that company most likely did the altering. As for why they did it, it makes it easier for somebody who needs a pic of a plane without worrying about paying the airline for usage of their logo. For example, a magazine might want to write about SXM and use a photo. They would use this picture so they wouldn't be showing a bias towards an airline and they don't have to deal with copyright of the airline's logo.
