Wed Mar 02, 2005 8:19 am

Effective 3/27/05 KE will operate ICN-ATL DAILY with a 744.

Will F/J/Y be offered or J/Y as KE does out of DFW with their B772ER?

Before when the flight was operated by 744, three classes were sold on those flights.

KE will also switch to a 744 at DFW as well.

According to Korean Air's timetable, ATL-ICN is sold as J/C/Y where J offers first class seating but business class service.

Are KEs ATL and DFW flights very popular in demand to justify an upgrade from B 772ERs to B 744s? I can understand ATL being upgraded as its DLs main hub and KE-DL are part of Sky Team. But why DFW??? What sort of traffic does KE get of DFW and is it that popular the flight into and out of DFW to warrant the jumbo as DFW is no longer a DL hub?!

Well, its about time. I was getting sick and tired of all the jumbos dropping like flies off ATL's radar. First it was JL, by pulling out altogether, then SA moving to that awful, ugly A346(lets not start the AB war, just my opinion), and then KE finally dropping the thrice weekly 777 and thrice weekly 744 flights down to 7x 777. All that we ever see in ATL anymore are cargo-haulers and they usually only fly at night. Good to see more 744's come in. Now, if we can somehow maybe convince LH and KL to bring them in? Ah, let me not push my luck. I would recommend bringing JL back in, but they changed their livery and I hate it. Went from the still stylish crane on the tail to some kind of half-rising sun thing. So we don't need that in as much as I would like.

KE ICN-ATL Back To 744

Wed Mar 02, 2005 2:56 pm

How is KE doing these days safety wise? I know they have had some
bad accidents in the past, the 743 that slammed in to the hill on
approach into Guam some years back, and the shooting down of
KAL 007 in '83 by the Soviets when they strayed into their airspace
near Sakhalin Is. A good friend of mine was searching for a good fare
from AVL to MNL to see family over there and he found a good deal
AVL-ATL on DL then KE ATL-ICN-MNL RT. He was curious on how
the service and safety on KE was lately. Any thoughts?

KE presently operates ATL-ICN 5x weekly with 777 (does not operate Fridays/Tuesdays). With the upgrade to the 744 it will begin 7x weekly again.

KE has 2 configurations. The service enhancement was just announced today and I am not certain whether the aircraft coming to ATL will be F/C/Y or P/C/Y. The difference being premium cabin offering sleeper seats.

Good. Finally a daily passenger 747 at ATL again. I just hope KE can maintain that flight year-round. With all the feed it should be possible.

Yea, for the past few months until lately, it would be like this. 744 on Wed, 777 on Thur, 744 on Fri, 777 on Sat, 744 on Sun, 777 on Mon, and no Tues flights. I never minded mixing it up like that, but after the past month or 2, its been all 777.

Ottopylit,

This will likely be it for you to see 747's in ATL (outside of Cargo carriers). I can't imagine KL or LH every bringing one in unless DL were to pull their route, which won't happen. It was hard enough to get KL to bring a 763 in.
BA won't ever bring one as long as they have to serve LGW.
Maybe AF, but they are happy with their current schedule.

DeltaMIA -

Do you think this is a spring/summer demand kind of thing with high demand for Spring travel from Korea and Summer demand going?

Yes, KE did the same thing last year. However it wasn't done until June, so by upgrading it at the end of March shows how well the market did last year and is showing KE's attempt to try and establish ATL-ICN as a year round daily route.

Are you speculating when you say that DFW's KE service will go to a 744? They're doing pretty well on their 3x weekly 772 service but I wouldn't think they would push things by upgrading to a 744. Wouldn't they increase frequency to 5x weekly rather than upgrade aircraft?
