MSY-FLL On US Expected To Start In June

Wed Mar 02, 2005 11:47 am

I was speaking to a couple of friends of mine at US today, and they said that US will be adding twice-daily service between MSY and FLL in June. Nothing is uploaded into Sabre yet. They said apparently they are looking at flying it with mainline aircraft. I'd put some validity into the route starting, but nothing's set in stone until we see it in the computer of course. It would be great for US to give WN some much needed competition on the route. Perhaps they can have the flights continue on to some Central American/Caribbean destinations, just like what AA does with their MSY-MIA flights...usually two out of the three flights continue onto international destinations.

Currently, AA 2297 is same-plane MSY-MIA-UVF service and AA 1646 is same-plane PAP-MIA-MSY service.

For the summer timetable starting in April, AA 2297 continues as MSY-MIA-UVF, while AA 971 will operate same-plane MSY-MIA-SJO.

Very interesting to hear that US Airways may start FLL-MSY, especially considering all the recent cuts, but I hope it goes through.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Any word on what type of equipment will be used?

I'm guessing 319, as I was told it's expected to be mainline, but maybe they'd throw a -300 on there who knows. Heck i'll take an ERJ for what it's worth.

I would love to go to MSY but I know a lot of people will be pissed if they start using a 737 on this route after just pulling the plug on some of the Latin American destinations. So I hope it's a 319 but using a ERJ could be a good move as well.

Seems like it may be wise to connect some Northland cities with FLL for combined local and connect traffic. BUF, ALB, MSP, BTV, MKE could all fit into this category.

We'll see...
